What did you think? It was nice but a bit dull on my opinion. Loved Lucille's wedding dress.

Beswitched Mon 14-Feb-22 07:27:22

Yes once dramas start introducing these major disaster storylines you know they're running out of material.

nadateturbe Mon 14-Feb-22 07:24:36

That was my thought Aveline - they've turned it into a soap. I was disappointed.

Aveline Mon 14-Feb-22 07:19:18

It's turned into full soap mode. Lots of cliff hangers and of course, a big disaster.
Past its sell by date?

Purpledaffodil Mon 14-Feb-22 05:28:41

Phyllis went off in a taxi to go on a coach trip around Europe.

Callistemon21 Sun 13-Feb-22 22:56:26

Oh dear, was it only last week ....
I've forgotten

Gwyneth Sun 13-Feb-22 22:49:28

Was it her car or did she go in a taxi or am confusing her with Trixie?

Callistemon21 Sun 13-Feb-22 22:44:53

Beswitched

Saw speculation on another thread that Phyllis might have been on the train. They did make a point of saying she was back in England. It would also explain Sr Frances saying something about it being the end of Nonnatus House, if Sr Julienne and Phyllis are both gone.

Didn't Phyllis go off in her car?
(I may have nodded off, I do miss bits of programmes)

Callistemon21 Sun 13-Feb-22 22:42:54

I was irritating DH by predicting the script! (As usual)
?

Grandma70s Sun 13-Feb-22 22:30:02

As soon as they got on that train I knew. There was no real reason to show them on a train, so it seemed likely that something was going to happen to it. A bit too obvious as a plot device, but I was gripped nevertheless.

My thoughts too Beswitched I did feel sorry for the pregnant 16 year old, life was not easy for some young girls then.

Beswitched Sun 13-Feb-22 21:32:10

Is next week the finale? This series has flown. Looks like it's going to end on a sad note. Hope it won't be Sr Julienne, but suspect it might be. They've been moving her downstage this series.

Pittcity Sun 13-Feb-22 21:25:57

It was just like Casualty where you know the person with a headache at the beginning is bound to come a cropper.

I suspect that Sister Julienne has something wrong and the bird foretold of her demise!

Beswitched Sun 13-Feb-22 21:15:25

This has really hit soap opera territory now.

Peartree Tue 08-Feb-22 06:20:18

I thought that about Sr Monica Joan. And also how cold Sr Julianne has become. I too missed Phyllis and Trixie and that Hippy stuff was rubbish.

Beswitched Mon 07-Feb-22 11:16:12

She used to be my favourite character, but it's hard to warm to her at the moment. She seems to be staying out of the day to day work and has just retired behind a desk. She was never like that before.
Maybe Jenny Agutter has an underlying condition and wanted to be out of the action as much as possible.

But between that, all the social distancing and now the absence of two longstanding characters this season of CTM is really lacking heart.

sodapop Mon 07-Feb-22 09:11:52

I agree about Sister Julienne Beswitched she seems very aloof and uncaring at times now.

Blondiescot Mon 07-Feb-22 08:23:29

Beswitched I have to admit I found that ridiculous too. Apart from her religious beliefs, Sr Monica Joan has always come across as a very logical woman who believed in the advancements of science etc too. I can't see her dabbling in the realms of spiritualists either.

Beswitched Sun 06-Feb-22 22:30:41

It was ridiculous that a highly religious woman like Sr Monica Joan, at an age when she would be ready to meet her maker, would be running around seeking reassurance from spiritualists after seeing a bird in the house. Also her dementia seems to have practically disappeared.

Grammaretto Sun 06-Feb-22 22:18:52

Is that them out of the series? Trixie to have her real life baby and Phyllis?
It was a bit too psychedelic tonight what with crows, and spitits.
I didn't know that a bird down the chimney was unlucky.
Birds often fall down my chimney.

Grandma70s Sun 06-Feb-22 21:34:28

I really missed Trixie and Phyllis, much more than I thought I would.

Beswitched Sun 06-Feb-22 21:28:33

The absence of Trixie and Phyllis was felt tonight I think. And what has happened to Sr Julienne? She's become quite detached and distant.

Beswitched Tue 01-Feb-22 20:56:10

It would be nice to see Phyllis buy her own home. I suspect however she'd rather spend her retirement somewhere like Spain rather than in London. She seems to love that culture and, apart from her job, doesn't appear to have any great ties in England.

I could picture her retiring to a Spanish seaside village, taking up painting classes, getting to know some ex pats and welcoming her ex colleagues from Poplar for holidays. Plus becoming friendly with the locals, advising young mothers, meeting some eligible widowers and generally enjoying life.

I really don't think sharing a bungalow in Bournemouth with Miss Millícent would be her cup of tea.

Callistemon21 Tue 01-Feb-22 11:36:45

Franbern I think my DB and SisIL got a Council mortgage several years before us but Councils had stopped doing it by the time we wanted one.

Trixie's the only one wearing loose clothes and she's not supposed to be pregnant in he programme ?
