Not giving anything away if I say the main character gets amnesia after a car accident in the Australian outback. We don't know his name either.
Just wondered if anyone else thought his accent changes from Scottish to Northern Irish? Maybe just bad acting.

^Has it been shown in full yet?^

NO, so please don’t post what happens in future episodes. Wait until it has finished properly please.

Someone did, that 's why I posted SPOILER ALERT ABOVE.
Hope everyone noticed it.

I enjoyed it, it gets better with each episode. The format is very
Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels.Quirky and well acted.

One has to suspend disbelief sometimes.

We have just finished this series and wouldn’t recommend it.
It felt padded out, four episodes would have been quite enough to tell the story.
Continuity was poor and there were so many things lacking explanation e.g. how did the main character manage with no money apart from a small handout to cover his bus fare and inability of the authorities to identify him etc.
Episode 5 was awful.
Disappointing.

@LuckyFour, we loved it too and discussed living there when we retired, so we started travelling with the kids to countries en route. You've reminded me of our trip to Rome, the kids were bored stiff, and at one point my stone kicking son said 'so when are we going to see Terry's fountain'? Still makes me laugh. I hope to go back to Port Douglas one day, and further north into the rain forest.

That reminds me of queuing up for ages outside the Uffizzi gallery in Florence. We were so bored but loved it once inside. My son was bored inside but ok queuing. I asked him how that was and he said ‘ I just pretended I was queuing up for a ride at Alton Towers’.

We loved it!!

Given up with it, far to much bad language and swearing and just not needed.

Has it been shown in full yet, if not SPOILER ALERT ABOVE!

The one thing that was ridiculous was that no Aussie or even tourist would go out bush without at least a flask, if not a large canister, of water!
They never seemed to say "I'll just fill up my water bottle before I go" ?

JaneJudge Fri 07-Jan-22 11:48:09

the last two episodes annoyed me

Episode 5 lost me completely, what on earth was it about?!
confused.com here ?

He had drunk from the water bottle containing LSD so episode 5 was all about disjointed flashbacks and flashes of memory.
The last scene of episode 6 is the one I’m wondering about. Does he survive the bottle of pills and get together with Helen or does he die?

We are all enjoying this in our house. To those who know, saying my DH is watching and enjoying it is like giving a programme 5 stars as we can’t get him to watch anything that isn’t a quiz show

I think what makes a good film or series is when, even knowing they’re fictional characters, you realise that you really care about the people in it.

We don't always binge watch, and where that's not an option will always try to watch the last two episodes on the same night. Too impatient to find out what happened to wait another week. Given that we rarely watch live TV we've often recorded a whole series before we even start to watch. grin

Calistemon Tue 04-Jan-22 23:25:09

We rarely binge watch but have just finished watching all of The Tourist.

However, the ending was spoilt because Masterchef cut in right at the end!

^For those of us that have binge watched, when can we talk about the end without spoiling it for anybody?^

After Episode 6 has aired, in the proper time. Not all of us binge watch. I, for one, still like to watch episodes on a weekly basis. Gives me something to look forward to.

I really wish I could do that but it’s the box of chocolates syndrome! I’ve got no self control.I miss looking forward to seeing an episode of my favourite series each week but always remember, pre having catchup, somebody phoning me up when I was watching the last episode of The Killing. I couldn’t not answer the phone because, with it being late at night I was worried that something bad had happened.

Went to Australia many years ago for 4 months and seriously thought of staying. It was a lovely lifestyle with lots of opportunity. We came home and gave it serious thought but in the end decided to stay here. Not regretted, we've been very lucky and happy.

magshard20 Tue 04-Jan-22 18:10:39

Well I watched episodes 1 and 2 on iplayer, and was completely flummoxed.......talking to my neighbour about it, and she said she had really enjoyed it, I told her it seemed so disjointed. Went home and pulled it up on iplayer again, realised my mistake I had watched episode 6 (the last one!!!!!) Instead of episode 1, phoned the neighbour to let her know what I had done and she thanked me for letting her know how it had ENDED.....think I'm in her bad books now......oops!!

silverlining48 Tue 04-Jan-22 13:44:22

Thank you Rosie. One more to go then, hope that clarifies the back story. Will watch later .

Just had a titter at our local Belfast news blog commenting on The Tourist and how could a Norn Irish man lose him memory in Australia. All they need to do is take a photo, put it on Twitter and someone here would know, his dad, granny, dog and does he stand a round at the pub. Simples.

They've got the internet in Australia too these days! His photo will be on a database somewhere.

Kevin Maher has a column in The Times today discussing his accent!

Thanks for that. Mind you was it the article that also led on to Jamie’s twitter account that showed him going for a Christmas ( or was it New Year?) dip in the Irish Sea (swoon: and I thought I was too old for swooning). A very good explanation as to why there’s a bit of confusion about his accent. What a good actor he is, though. I gave up on The Fall, probably because the acting was so good and I found it far too chilling…and was never going to watch 50 shades. For those of us that have binge watched, when can we talk about the end without spoiling it for anybody. If anybody wants to pm me, feel free. I don’t know anyone in the real world who’s watched it and I so need to talk about it. I might actually just watch it all again!

Petalpop Tue 04-Jan-22 12:58:50

His accent is Northern Irish to me. My mother was from Belfast and half my family speak with a similar accent. I have watched The Tourist all the way through on iPlayer and I enjoyed it.
