Anyone going to watch ‘Four Lives’ on BBC1 tonight?

I was tempted to binge watch the last episode on BBC iPlayer but as it’s on again tomorrow night, I can wait. If it were next week I would have though! I like these dramas being screened on consecutive evenings.

Actually got me thinking about something re series on tv. The older ones amongst us will remember the USA drama screened weekly called ‘The Fugitive’. We as a family avidly watched it but had to miss the denouement about ‘the one armed man’ as we were going on holiday - first ever trip abroad and no video recorders in August 1967! I remember the date easily as it was my birthday. Mum was so disappointed to miss it and had to find out about it from her neighbour friends when we got home!

Nowadays look at how we can watch, choose, pause, rewind! We wouldn’t have believed such things were even possible.

It starred the gorgeous (to my mother certainly and to my tender young eyes) David Janssen.

I sort of remembered the case but got a real jolt tonight when they went to Snaresbrook Crown Court just 5 minutes from where I lived at the time.
I think the drama is brilliant because it shows the grief and turmoil going on in the lives of those who relatives died. We knew who the perpetrator was from the beginning which makes the rest of the story so poignant. Sheridan Smith, amazing in her tragic role.

What a great drama of a dreadful subject I too don’t remember the real case gulligranny
The police made me very cross they were so blasé in their dealings with these poor families

Quite understand 3nanny6 - tv programmes are like buses aren’t they? Either nothing on or a few turn up together!

I watched ‘Four Lives’ again tonight. Sheridan Smith plays a very believable grieving mum. It must have been harrowing for the real life Mrs. Sak, torn apart by her son’s death, with an open verdict given by the Coroner and the inept or more likely, disinterested, detectives supposedly in charge of his death. No wonder she felt like screaming! She must have felt she was going mad.

The crass way the detective blurted out ‘we’ve got the toxicology results back, what would you like to do with his body parts?’ OMG. The poor woman didn’t even know what they had done to her son’s body. No communication. No support. No updates. Truly shocking.

Sometimes there is nothing on the T.V and suddenly lots of things come on and are on different channels. I do not have recording set on my T.V or iplayer a little bit old fashioned in my house.
I have been watching Anne on another channel and another episode is tonight. I have watched different documentaries and another film of the Hillsborough disaster although sad I have found it a good watch. A terrible disaster and something that will never be forgotten.

We watched the first episode and thought it was excellent. I don't remember the case at all but it's not that long ago and I'm horrified by the homophobia - not quite blatant but more a lack of care because of it? Can't believe that the FLO didn't even visit!

Will certainly be watching the remaining episodes.

I watched it last night and found it interesting. The attitude of the police was appalling.

Only caught the last 30 minutes - what a revelation Stephen Merchant was! Will definitely be watching the rest

I watched the first episode.
Sheridan Smith is so credible in all the roles she plays. I've seen most of her brilliant TV work, but reportedly her on stage performances fall short.
The police made me very cross.

I watched it all in one go (I prefer to see things in a ‘binge’), and agree that it was shocking. It was well acted and not sensationalist.

The scheduling (putting it up against Anne on ITV) was unfortunate- two true stories about grieving mothers was a bit of a New Year downer, but it’s worth a watch, and at least the women were both vindicated (not spoilering, as there would have been no series’ if that weren’t the case), so in that sense there was a happy ending.

Watched it, made me cross with the attitude of the police.

Will save it for binge watching later.

No.

A shocking display of incompetence and complacency by police investigating these horrendous crimes.
How many of these crimes are seen as " unexplained " deaths and aren't followed up until it's left to grieving families to find answers ?
This is still happening !

A good series and well acted by the underrated Sheridan Smith who plays the grieving mother who is forced to do the groundwork because police show no interest, except to give her short shrift if she dares to phone them enquiring about investigations surrounding her son's sudden death miles away.

It was yet another programme that I have recorded to watch later in the week, I seem to have saved quite a few recently. I’ve still got the full series of Shetland to watch!

Shockingly, I have just read that 5 of the incompetent or disinterested police officers who were 'investigating' these 4 murders have been PROMOTED. Yep.

I've recording it. We've just watched the first episode of Anne. We need something lighter now.

Urmstongran Mon 03-Jan-22 22:29:09

True. It’s as though I’m watching and irrationally hoping for a different ending, in both dramas.

Doodledog Mon 03-Jan-22 22:20:47

I'm watching Episode 2 on iPayer now, and will probably stay up and watch them all.

It's very good, but a bit hard to take after watching Anne, about the Hillsbrough disaster.

Urmstongran Mon 03-Jan-22 22:00:57

Well, the cavalier attitude the Police displayed to Mrs. Sak was shocking.

Aveline Mon 03-Jan-22 21:06:43

Am recording it to binge watch. Fingers crossed it's good.

Apparently it’s a fact based drama starring Sheridan Smith. I think she’s a brilliant actress. She played ‘Cilla’ fairly recently.
It Continues tomorrow, with all three episodes on BBC iPlayer; “it’s a gripping story charged with anger, superb performances and renewed currency after a recent inquest”
With a chilling performance by Stephen Merchant (pictured).

I’ve just made a mug of Horlick and I’m in a ringside seat ...
