Ridiculous Emmerdale

Has Emmerdale been any more ridiculous than it is at the moment? Stupid kidnap storyline with the perpetrator trying do mesh a ridiculous Shakespearean performance of The Scottish Play. It sucks!! Is it just me?

Good question Sodapop, perhaps the young actors are looking around for newer, more interesting roles.
I'm struck by the absence of any really elderly people in that village. There's quite a high percentage of 'ethnic' characters, lots of youngish ones and middle aged, only Zac and Pollard are in any way aged - but no seriously old ones which is usual in villages.

My family said his farming programme was good ExDancer perhaps I'll give it a try.
Yes it would be nice to have a period of peace in Emmerdale while people get their lives back together. Wonder when David & Victoria will be back.

ExDancer Mon 17-Jan-22 11:43:50

Lol Sodapop, I agree he's an obnoxious and self opinionated individual, but his farming programme is hilarious and is really true to life.
I still watch Emmerdale although its gone right off the rails. I can't think how they can spice it up without these outlandish storylines, can you? - wish I could!

Give me Emmerdale & Corrie over the dreadful Jeremy Clarkson any time Exdancer sorry smile

I watched some Classic Coronation Street a couple of years ago and it reminded me of why the soaps used to be so addictive.
I haven't watched any of them in years now. They just became so rubbishy, full of dislikeable characters and ridiculously OTT storylines.

Give me Rita and Mavis bickering in The Cabin any day.

ExDancer Sun 16-Jan-22 10:16:03

I love it, its no more stupid than James Bond or all the murders in Midsommer - c'mon, we watch to be entertained and its certainly entertaining.
If you made a real-life programme about our village all you'd see would be cars taking people to work in the mornings and cars bringing people back from work in the evenings, plus the occasional tractor. A village thats size wouldn't support a cafe, a pub, a beauty salon, a marriage planner, a shop and an outdoor sports complex
If you want a true to life programme about farming - watch Jeremy Clarkson.

To me, the most ridiculous scene of all was when Meena suddenly wheeled out a great big drip apparatus (sorry, don't know the correct terminology) from the back of the barn, ready to start putting vodka into Vinny's blood.
I know she's a nurse, but her having that to hand was just so unbelievable that it was funny!

Shropshirelass Sun 16-Jan-22 10:04:26

All the soaps seem to be trying to outdo each other with ridiculous story lines, they have become very boring, very far from real life. Lost interest in them all, going to watch some paint drying I think!

dogsmother Sun 16-Jan-22 10:00:21

Oh dear…..I ve rather taken to the story line and the actress who plays Mena. I have been laughing ou5 loud at her maniacal ways, happy to know it’s not real, and so cheering on when I thought she’d been caught! In fact ive never enjoyed a soap more…..

Grandma2213 Sat 15-Jan-22 01:09:42

I actually love how ridiculous it is at the moment! I always say you have to watch some bad to appreciate the really good stuff.

Ohmother Fri 14-Jan-22 22:43:58

Thank you for updating me sodapop. It was easier to read about it than watch it. X

glammanana Fri 14-Jan-22 11:02:38

Goodness me it must be a scary village to live in at the moment kidnappings/explosions/murders you would never go out would you ?
Its totally OTT at the moment but I find it compelling viewing I am such a soap addict I must confess.

sodapop Fri 14-Jan-22 09:13:17

No it didn't Ohmother sorry. Liam freed Manpreet & Vinny but Meena got away. Charles driving through the woods knocked down Manpreet who was searching for Meena ( apparently no ill effects from drugs or fumes ) Meena got a lift with a conveniently passing stranger and told him her name was Manpreet.

Ohmother Fri 14-Jan-22 06:53:11

I missed it!! I had a friend phone. Did it end? Please God tell me it ended!!! ??

Ohmother Thu 13-Jan-22 16:17:26

Oh my goodness I hope the Meena story ends today ??????

It is the stupidest storyline EVER……..isn’t it? ?‍♀️

sodapop Wed 12-Jan-22 12:50:45

I'm an Emmerdale addict as well H1954 of course the story lines are ridiculous but it gives me a taste of home being set in Yorkshire. I take it all with a large pinch of salt and enjoy watching. Think the Meena story reaches its climax tomorrow.

H1954 Wed 12-Jan-22 07:43:26

I confess to being a regular viewer of Emmerdale but have to agree, the present serial killer storyline is rediculous! When Meena and Manpreet were fighting in last nights episode it was difficult to make out who was who, they were dressed identically!
And how come there has never been a funeral for Andrea? There was a memorial service but no actual funeral. Does anyone else suspect that she's still alive and helping the police with their enquiries? The production team best get their fingers out before Meena murders the rest of the cast and resorts to slaughtering the Dingles pigs!

Ethelwashere1 Wed 12-Jan-22 07:33:40

Ive never watched any soaps for 30 odd years. I did love emmerdale when it was an afternoon show with annie and joe.
I was dismayed to get a book for christmas about emmerdale, however i tried it and loved it so much. There is a whole series set in 1914 with the early sugdens, obviously written as a prequel to the series. Any lovers of old emmerdale would love it

EllanVannin Tue 11-Jan-22 22:04:37

The only soap I watch is Home and Away. No Brit ones.

Joesoap Tue 11-Jan-22 22:00:28

It has become ridiculous and boring, the same theme every evening,I wish they would get somebody else to write the script

Elizabeth27 Tue 11-Jan-22 21:55:29

Always strikes me as odd when people comment on the TV thread that they do not watch the programme it is about.

On other threads, I have not seen the comment ‘I have no interest in this topic” so why just TV programmes.

Elizabeth27 Tue 11-Jan-22 21:50:00

It’s unbelievable, it would be ridiculous in a drama about a serial killer.

I have watched for years, mostly out of habit as I eat at 7 pm, I will probably continue to watch but moan about it continually.

MerylStreep Tue 11-Jan-22 21:48:43

I’ve often wondered who watches it. Those ridiculous clips you see between programs are bad enough ?

Mapleleaf Tue 11-Jan-22 21:46:12

I gave up watching all soaps years ago. They are totally ridiculous now and can’t even be redeemed by humour anymore.

mokryna Tue 11-Jan-22 21:40:11

Sorry, Emmerdale Farm? I gave up watching it 46 years ago, when everything happened round a kitchen table.
