For me (us) - we have switched to ITV because Tom Bradby is amazing. Human, with just a touch of sarcasm, SOH and despair- and a face and expression that says it all, while remaining totally professional.

Wonderful man.

Kate Silverton used to do the Saturday tea time news, but she hasn’t been on lately. Thought she must have left.

winterwhite Fri 14-Jan-22 21:02:36

We only watch BBC. Another vote for Martin Lewis, followed by Sophie Rayworth and Kate Silverton. Rita Chakrabarti has a pleasant smile but she can make even mildly bad news sound like the crack of doom.

lemsip Fri 14-Jan-22 20:47:06

Clive myrie for me.

EllanVannin Thu 13-Jan-22 21:03:55

I liked George Alagiah, the gentleman.

calistemon this one?

If it is her, kittylester, she looks lovely there but very bad tempered when I've seen her recently!

Georgesgran Thu 13-Jan-22 20:52:03

Soft spot for Kate Silverton as she started on local tv here

George Alagiah was a friend of mine at school, then as happens we all went our separate ways.
My Mum noticed his name when he was the BBC Africa correspondent and we followed his career with interest.
I'm very sorry to read of his continuing health concerns and wish him and his family well ?

Soroptimum Thu 13-Jan-22 17:01:15

Kate Silverton and Jane Hill.

IMHO Simon McCoy was the master of the superfluous comment. And, hilariously funny.

LauraNorderr Thu 13-Jan-22 16:50:23

I would have liked to see Kirsty Wark take over on Question Time instead of, in my opinion, the insipid Fiona Bruce.

*Calistemon*, I love the BBC's Novak reporter. She looks as though she would be fun.

Have I got the right one - she always looks exceedingly grumpy!!

Can I say Kirsty Wark? For the ooft alone. grin

I also like Tom Bradby. Writes books and screenplays, got over a serious medical problem to get back on screen.

I enjoyed a couple of his books.

Tom Bradby for me, I like his asides, and I have started to watch the New at Ten on ITV rather than BBC because they are less afraid of tackling controversial issues such as the disgraceful state of many rented properties and the inability of the housing associations to do anything about it. I also like Clive Myrie.

I like Simon Conway and Zora Suleman, both on LBC. Both have authoritative but calm and clear voices without any irritating accent or mannerisms so I can listen to what they're saying rather than the way they're saying it.

Lexisgranny Thu 13-Jan-22 13:06:38

I do not care for Tom Bradbury, I, too, like Huw Edwards. Dh dislikes Rita Chakrabrati because she cannot keep her head still when she talks!

Is that you Mrs Bradby?

?

Oh yes, Charlene White and Jane Hill.
Huw is OK too.

In fact, anyone who delivers the news without making their own comments.

The BBC woman reporting from Australia on the Djokovic debacle is dreadful - very biased towards Djokovic and angry with the Australian government.

Calistemon Thu 13-Jan-22 12:50:45

I think Bradby is immature with his comments and expressions. And yes Calendargirl sums him up.
I wish George Alagiah were on.

I don't like Bradby's style either.

I want a newsreader to read the news, not give me his opinion on it or make quips or comments.
He should keep his opinions to himself; he is just reading the news not discussing it.

Yes, I agree about George Alagiah and Clive Myrie

I like Rita Chakrabrati, a calm and pleasant voice in a turbulent world!

Jane43 Thu 13-Jan-22 12:01:45

Another vote for Clive Myrie and I dislike Tom Bradby too for the reasons given by others. Rita Chakrabati is my second choice.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 12-Jan-22 14:10:58

I like Clive Myrie, also George Alagiah and am sad he’s so ill. For someone who seems friendly and ordinary I like Martine Croxall on BBC, also Rita Chakrabati seems a lovely lady.

Aveline Wed 12-Jan-22 13:20:45

George Alagiah is very good too. Seems like a nice man. I was very sorry to hear of his illness.

libra10 Wed 12-Jan-22 11:25:00

Last sentence should read 'news reader ...'

libra10 Wed 12-Jan-22 11:23:44

I think that most news presenters are biased, can't think of any who are non-partisan.

Surely a new reader's role is to present the news in an unbiased yet meaningful way, and none come to mind.
