Hooray! I like this as a 2nd best to Strictly. Don't like Holly & Phil but have to tolerate them to enjoy the skating.

Were any of you skaters? I grew up skating everday in winter- both at our artificial rink and some of our lakes. Loved it. Was good a speed, and did train in figure skating, but was never particularly good. I used to take our girls skating at Nottingham regularly.

EllanVannin

Anyone ever watched the world's best skaters who compete at Olympics ? They knock Torvill and Dean into a cocked hat.

But Torvill and Dean are now in their 60s!

The marking is nothing to do with professional skaters. This is a light entertainment show where the likes of Bez will do well because he is liked.

Ray Quinn was the best. He's worked in the entertainment field since the show. Often on cruise ships. When the pandemic he was basically left jobless and got no furlough so he did some courier driving and helping his father out.

EllanVannin Brilliant! Going back a bit do you remember Marina Anissina( abundant red hair) and Gwendal Peizerat, French-Russian Olympic champions in 2002. Breathtaking.

From next weekend, we'll have the Winter Olympics to enjoy. I love watching the intricacies of top level ice skating. That and the six nations rugby. My cup runneth over! brew

Sweetpeasue, the German ice-skaters Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot are a sight to behold in the 2018 Olympics.

I do EllanVannin Every time, as much as is covered on mainstream channels. I loved Torvill and Dean back in their prime. But professional ice skating is certainly a higher standard these days.
I can't watch the full DOI programme. Too many ads and most celebrities can't reach a high enough standard for me to be interested.
Lovely to see Brendan and Regan though.

Someone mentioned Ray Quinn, who was marvellous as was Jake Quickenden in 2018. Both fast skaters and confident too.

( I could have choked that screaming woman in the audience ) I had to keep turning the sound down after every introduction in case she kicked-off again.

I think it will be between Brendan and Regan, both trained dancers and neither had been on ice before although I think Gazza said he took Regan ice skating at the age of 4.

I have no idea who the person eliminated was but she should not have been in the dance-off.

Bez has worked very hard, did not fall and could skate by himself-100% improvement and he is not in his first flush of youth.

There are too many ads but I appreciate the programme has to be paid for.

Tizliz I'm glad it wasn't just me not understanding the marks ... and you clearly have much more experience than I do.

Ashley's marks have been suspect in previous DoI series. I think the problem is that only T&D are skaters, the other 2 judges are dancers and look for different things.

Tizliz Sun 30-Jan-22 21:38:56

We gave up tonight, just can’t understand the marks - I know how to skate and the judges are not marking spins and jumps. Is this because Torvil and Dean are dance skaters? Never watched before so don’t know if this strange marking is normal. They need Craig!

I suppose, lavendermine that it is primarily an entertainment show, and at the moment, Bez is "watch through your fingers" entertaining, and will be kept in for that reason.

I am very impressed by Brendan Cole, the Strictly professional. Yes, he is a dancer so probably has an edge over the others in terms of moving his body and presenting his partner BUT he still had to learn to skate. Same with James Jordan the other year. He could barely stand on the ice when he first started, but he had that dancer's commitment to practice, and went on to win.

I don't think Bez will be out for a few weeks yet, even if he is by far and away the worst skater in the cast this year.

lavendermine Sun 30-Jan-22 19:56:20

Here we go again!! Bez is through and takes a place that should have gone to either Rachel or Ria. Don't know why I bother to watch it.

Loved Brendan and Regan.

Sparklefizz Sun 30-Jan-22 19:37:09

Anyone watching tonight? Thought Kimberley at the start was over-marked. Can't believe her performance gained more marks than Brendan's or Regan's, both of whom were brilliant.

Brendan and Regan are exciting to watch.

Hope Bez doesn't get through because that means someone good has to go home, and honestly, he is a joke, bless him.

TillyTrotter Mon 24-Jan-22 09:08:43

Oh that would be a shame!
I saw Ray Quinn in a theatre show in Birmingham just before Covid times and he was as enigmatic as ever.
Such energy, and a boyish charm. He seems the sort of person who would succeed at whatever he did.

Sparklefizz Mon 24-Jan-22 08:17:33

Almost as good as Ray Quinn who has to be the best winner of DoI ever

Ray Quinn was amazing, wasn't he - totally fearless on the ice. Hard to believe that he has now gone into his family's carpet business according to the news online. Maybe it's just during the pandemic and not a permanent job.

Sparklefizz Mon 24-Jan-22 08:14:49

So many ad breaks during the programme, and an overload of Schofield sad

annodomini Sun 23-Jan-22 23:16:30

Yes, Hellogirl, Gazza really shows the effects of wear and tear! Regan isn't exactly a chip off the old block, is he? His dance training was put to good effect.

Hellogirl1 Sun 23-Jan-22 22:34:35

Gazza doesn`t look too good, does he?

Sweetpeasue Sun 23-Jan-22 22:05:51

Loved watching Torvill and Dean's performance.
Never miss any Olympic or World ice dance competitions if on mainstream TV.

gillgran Sun 23-Jan-22 21:29:38

Yes, I watched it tonight, always have enjoyed Dancing on Ice.

I'm a great fan of Torville & Dean, I admire how good they still are.
Also love to watch the pro.,skaters.

TillyTrotter Sun 23-Jan-22 21:17:20

Oh thanks. I know who Gazza is.

Sweetpeasue Sun 23-Jan-22 21:11:14

I watched Sparklefizz .I had to record some of it and fast forward through ads.
I too thought Regan was much better than the rest. Confident on the ice but also his dance training made him by far the best tonight.
It will be interesting to see him perform again.
Brendan and Regan, ones to watch for me.

Zoejory Sun 23-Jan-22 20:32:29

Regan was excellent.

Almost as good as Ray Quinn who has to be the best winner of DoI ever smile

EllanVannin Sun 23-Jan-22 20:29:39

I watched it on and off.
Regan is the son of Paul Gascoigne TillyTrotter. Some good skating.
