His music has been a soundtrack to our family life.

Another sad loss to the music biz! I worked with him years ago at the NEC Birmingham and remember him lying spreadeagled backstage after the gig for half an hour, he was so exhausted! My signed copy of "Bat out of Hell" on red vynyl will be treasured forever! RIP Marvin Lee Aday

Very sad - very memorable- I understand that he was very against any Covid precautions - masks etc. including vaccinations -

Soundtrack to our lives too. Cant say how many copies of BOOH we had between us. Vinyl. Cassette. CD Two in house. One in each car. Several “ replacements “ Happy days. Saw him live just once with then 12 year old son (20 +years ago) who loved the music. TBH he was shambolic. Wandering round stage, forgetting words, missing cues, using every expletive known to most of us. We came away disappointed. Did it alter our feelings towards him or his music? NOOOOOOOO! Its rock n roll!! The music will live on and has given us great times and great memories …… . “ I bet you say that to all the boys” … ? ? ?.??. RIP Meatloaf.

Not from covid with alongside other medical issues ?

Moggycuddler Sat 22-Jan-22 11:25:27

He was one of a kind. I feel sad and sorry that he died so (comparatively) young. But with his weight and lifestyle, he was never going to get very old, let's face it. I understand he died from covid and had been, sadly, an anti-masker and probably an anti-vaxxer too. Sigh.

Whatever he thought or did regarding his health I’m very sad to hear he has died. His music was the backdrop to many great times in my youth and I love it still. RIP Meatloaf

He died of Covid after lots of publicly declaring he was antivax, anti-mask and hugged people who were ill with Covid. He said “if I die, I die, but I won’t be controlled”! I’m sad that he was stupid enough to kill himself with Covid, but I’m also angry that, as a public role model, he put others at risk with his foolishness. Now he has a Darwin Award!

Meatloaf was the soundtrack to my late teens.

I spent time online yesterday reminiscing with old friends about what he meant to us.

So I'm afraid your tasteless little comments about stupidity and Darwin Awards are uncalled for.

I don't care what he died of, but the world is worse off with out him. No need to be so snooty about him

He was asthmatic too.
It’s very frustrating that he had such long term ill health and must have had the very best treatment, and yet died in this way.

The music was not to my taste, but sorry for the loss to his family. He died of Covid and was anti vaccine.

It seems what he was opposed to was compulsory vaccination.
That isn’t quite the same as being anti-vax

He was antivax and anti-mask

He meant nothing to me and have scarcely heard any of his music. Just came here to express sympathy for those feeling sad. That's how I felt when Alan Rickman died. Not happened with a singer since George Harrison.

SachaMac Sat 22-Jan-22 10:48:54

Very sad news, we loved him. My friend saw him at Chatsworth House some years ago and says he was brilliant. One of my favourite songs was Paradise by the Dashboard Light I will blast that out later. RIP Meatloaf

hopstone Sat 22-Jan-22 10:48:41

Bat out of Hell, fantastic album, used to play this whilst driving to and from work down the motorway, oh happy happy days!! saw him at the NEC years ago, brought the house down, he was phenomenal.

minxie Sat 22-Jan-22 10:47:17

So gutted about this and I can’t find my Bat out of hell cd anywhere to blast out some tunes

Dearknees1 Sat 22-Jan-22 10:46:57

When Jim Steinman died last year he is reported to have said, ‘I’ll be with you soon Jimmy’. He never seemed in the best of health but the legend lives on in our hearts and souls.

Alioop Sat 22-Jan-22 10:44:44

His album was played a lot by my sister as I was growing up so the songs bring back a lot of memories to me. I just love Two Out of Three Ain't Bad and Heaven Can wait. Farewell Meatloaf ?

We have seen him lots of times.

Most memorably at Warwick Castle with DD3.

'Paradise by the dashboard light' was often sung in our kitchen while Sunday lunch was being prepared and I remember singing 'I'd do anything for love' at the tops of our voices while driving to school for DD2's A Levels. It helped to calm her nerves and gee her up. It worked!!

I was at that concert! Can you recall when it was as a friend of mine has just said that I am mistaken and he had never played there.

I live in Warwick and used to hear the concerts from my house and attended a few. I think Meat Loaf performed at the castle in 2007

Chrysalis Sat 22-Jan-22 10:43:14

He was superb. We saw him at the NEC years ago. The entire arena belting out 'Bat Out Of Hell' with him at the top of it's lungs. Will never forget it. May he rest in peace.

Soniah Sat 22-Jan-22 10:32:45

If further news is true sadly because of his Anti-vax era stance

Mr Loaf seems to have been a regular in A&E!

About 20 years' ago a friend was working at Northwick Park Hospital when he was admitted after collapsing on stage at Wembley.
