I went to see this film with a friend this afternoon. It was produced by Kenneth Branagh and is set in 1969 and semi-autobiographical. It has a very strong cast with Jamie Dornan, Judi Dench and Ciaran Hinds but a newcomer, a little boy called Jude Hill, steals every scene he is in. We both enjoyed it very much including the music by Van Morrison and a great performance of Everlasting Love by Jamie Dornan.

Just brilliant.
Well done Sir Kenneth?????

Saw it this afternoon. Very well done, sectarianism is so destructive!

Wonderful performances from all the cast particularly the little boy at the heart of the story, what a find he is, a complete natural.

Fabulous soundtrack from Van Morrison plus Jamie Dornan does an excellent rendition of Everlasting Love, forgotten how much I loved that song.

So few films worth seeing at the cinema these days for those of us who are not particularly interested in Spiderman or any of the other Marvel comic heroes, Belfast a welcome break from all of that. Highly recommended.

I watched it with a lump in my throat . It is well made , the story what many went through , but a bit sugared due to the child’s view of what was happening .
Many messages , the excellent acting by the Mother showed how easily children can be set astray,

We’re going to see it on Sunday afternoon, while we’ve chance. I love going to the cinema and would never choose to watch a new film at home. It’s a watered down experience, imho. From recent visits I guess there’ll be hardly anyone else there, so obviously most people don’t agree. smile

Excellent film with a brilliant cast, as others have said the young lad who plays the lead is superb.
I renewed my cineworld annual membership in December and absolutely loving being back at the cinema ?

It’s such a good film, I’ve been to see it twice! Taking different people with me each time.
There’s so much detail in the scenes and characters, I needed two viewings to appreciate its depth.
I hope it wins all the awards it deserves.

Belfast nominated for 6 BAFTAS. It will have stiff competition from Dune and The Power of the Dog.

Should have said I rented on Amazon Prime.

I was able to pay to see it on the tv last weekend, very odd that it should be available in Canada and not in the UK?
We loved the movie and I cannot wait to see if the opening song by Van Morrison called Down to,Joy will be released. I lived in Belfast for the first 35 years of my life and the movie took me right back to my roots.

It doesn't come out until 24 February here. I am going to ask all my expat friends if we can go and see it together. I just hope it will be showing somewhere with the original English sound track. Two of our group are from NI.

Mu friend and I always go to Odeon Luxe, the seats are large recliners and there are a lot fewer than in the traditional cinema layout. We always go in the afternoon and it is never crowded.

Same with me. Nerve pain makes normal seats too painful but the recliner seats are fine with built in social distance.

I'd love to see this but I'll wait till I can get it on telly, I got enough illnesses already. Does anyone know if I can pay to see it on tv?

Thanks Iam64.

It's not available to stream anywhere yet.

Jaxjacky Tue 25-Jan-22 21:25:58

I don’t think it’s available to be streamed in the UK yet. Cinema only.

Iam64 Tue 25-Jan-22 21:24:52

Nadaterbe / cinema very quiet both recent visits felt very safe

Kamiso Tue 25-Jan-22 20:56:21

Just back from seeing Belfast. We both really enjoyed it. The acting and music was excellent and better for being on the big screen.

Also experienced the same silence at the end of the film - no mad scramble for the exit! Perhaps we are more inclined to savour the moment.

We chose the afternoon midweek to avoid crowds. The cinema was about 1/3rd full. We went to Bella Pasta after which made a real change and felt quite safe.

Urmstongran Tue 25-Jan-22 20:54:22

I think it’s on Netflix. I plan to watch it soon.

Shinamae Tue 25-Jan-22 20:48:00

I’m going to see it tomorrow.. My friend wanted to go and see “Scream” last night, I have never watched so much bloody rubbish in my life…?‍♀️

nadateturbe Tue 25-Jan-22 20:38:00

Sorry Iam64 I quoted you by mistake.

MayBee70- we were anxious but have been twice recently. Once at 3 once at 5.30. Once there were two others in there, at Belfast there were eight of us. Social distancing easy. It was exciting to Go Out

I would love to go but I don't like the thought of crowds. Had anyone here been to cinema in Belfast? If so how busy was it?

BlueBelle Tue 25-Jan-22 14:39:51

I m going in a couple of weeks with my friend looking forward to it
Even just going to the cinema is good there’s been nothing to see for ages I have been to the cinema during lockdown but there’s been very little showing at our local cinema

I’m really pleased that Catriona Balfe will get the recognition she deserves as an actress. I’ve always loved her in Outlander. I may actually mask up and go to a cinema to see this. I didn’t intend to set foot in a cinema for the foreseeable future but I don’t really want to wait for it to come out on dvd.

Definitely needs the big screen, we’ve been going to the cinema for quite a while and feel quite safe but we are not in a big city.
