My first memory of hearing Shirley Bassey sing was Goldfinger, she has such a powerhouse of a voice- amazing. Such a strong memory for me and I loved the film. I believe it was Shirley who persuaded them to use the song in the film.

Calendargirl I always liked that song. I'm not sure that I fully understood what it was about at the time as I was probably a very young 12. I think tonight was the last episode sadly.

Just watched tonight’s show. One of her guests was Bobby Goldsboro singing ‘Summer, The First Time’.

Loved that song, it created such a picture in your mind of the events unfolding.

Don’t know if it was autobiographical.

Ellanvannin that's what I liked about her too. She was such a good sport and could take a joke against herself.

I admired her so much that I named a D after her grin.
What a star. I was always fascinated by her with her dresses and feathers. A good sport too on the M&W show all those years ago.

I watched 'Shirley Bassey at the BBC', on a Saturday night recently and was amazed. I had almost forgotten what a wonderful singer she was. One of this country's greatest singers ever. And how much heart and soul she put into her performances. I think her private life was quite stormy at times, but what mattered was her powerful and beautiful voice and the emotion with which she sang.

She is what I call a star. Thanks for the photos Urms. She looks amazing. Her performances were always heavy on the drama, weren't they?

Still looking good Shirl - last week. ?

I think one of her daughters committed suicide, and an ex husband was gay, if I recall correctly. Tough life.

Bit like Joan Collins though, they don’t make ‘em like that anymore!

My mum loved her. I used to marvel at her nails - long talons before acrylics were invented and how she would twist her mouth sometimes when she sang. Admittedly a great voice!

I’m sure there was some scandal about her back in the day but I cannot recall it?

Ooh I’ve just remembered, I saw her with mum (and her friends) at a Batley club - must’ve been around 1971. We’d gone by coach trip. A huge place. The days of scampi and chips in a basket on the table, drinks brought by waiting staff as I recall. She wore a sequinned dress (trademark costume) and a huge feather boa. I never realised she wore wigs I just used to think she was very glamorous.

Loved her with the ‘boot’ on the Morecambe and Wise show!

I'm watching this on a Friday night and there's no one like her! Such a Diva. The guests are all the biggest stars of the day. And her dresses are amazing! I'd forgotten how much I liked her.
