For anyone who loves watching ice skating and ice dance and remembers John Curry, the famous skater, I can recommend The Ice King on Netflix. Some amazing skating and John Curry's story.

I'll have a look for it. John Curry was such a wonderful skater.

It's a very good film. I remember what an impact he had when he first started. Wonderful dancer who just happened to be skating.

I love watching professional ice skating. Thankyou Sparklefizz Although I don't have Netflix I will be watching the highlights from the figure skating from Beijing next week.

I went to see John Curry in an ice show in London, after his Olympic career ended. He was nothing short of magical. He had a company of dancers with him and they were all skilled, as you’d imagine, but he was on a higher level altogether. He made barely a sound as he skated, just the slightest ‘shrrr’ as he landed or turned, whereas the others, you could hear them landing their jumps etc.

He died far too young. sad

I love Torville and Dean but John Curry did it all first. He was magnetic to watch. "Poetry in motion" as you say welbeck.

I remember being at a committee meeting back in the 1970s on the night that John Curry was being shown live on tv in the Olympics. This was back in the days before VHS recording was possible. The one grumpy member of the committee was shouted down and we watched the skating, then resumed our meeting later! He was absolutely magical, a completely different style of skating.

He had quite a sad life unfortunately. Poor John. He blazed a trail for Robin Cousins and Torvill and Dean.

As a big fan of ice skating/dancing, I do hope we get to see plenty of it in the winter Olympics shortly. Television has tended to reduce coverage in recent years.
And yes, John Curry was amazing. As was Robin Cousins.
And the marvellous Torville and Dean. We have been lucky with our ice skaters.

I remember him. Unfortunately, my viewings were spoiled by homophobic comments from Undear H. Same with Nuryev.

Try to watch the film if you can. It's on Netflix. Tell under H to belt up!

"Undear*!

When does coverage of the Winter Olympics start? Anyone know?
