Oh I know , it’s only a silly soap, but why do those poor babies have to wear woolly hats all the time?

Kali2 Fri 04-Feb-22 17:39:41

Golly, not watched Neighbours for a decade or two. lol

Anniebach Fri 04-Feb-22 17:54:30

Atqui I thought the same

Neighbours is going to be axed from C5. I know it's only a soap but I watch it every day. It's my down time. sad

tanith Mon 07-Feb-22 13:48:27

I watch it in the morning on my iPad whilst eating my breakfast have done for years I hope they find another channel to take it on.

Chestnut Mon 07-Feb-22 13:49:38

I also watch it whilst eating lunch. I have never watched the UK soaps, they are all so dark and depressing. The Aussie soaps are a bit of fun with sunshine and beaches. A soap should be a bit of frothy nonsense and not leave you feeling miserable!

Yes, it's a bit daft sometimes but I've watched it since it started. There are storylines I'm not particularly interested in, so fast forward. As you say, it's a bit of down time.

I've tried watching Eastenders and Corrie but think they're awful. There seems to be continual shouting and nastiness and I don't understand why anyone would want to watch that. Is that really what it's like in those areas?

Anniebach Mon 07-Feb-22 14:51:04

Channel5 are stopping showing it this summer, seems it will
end here

nadateturbe Mon 07-Feb-22 15:09:56

It needs more financial backing or it might stop production altogether.
I'm going to miss it. Especially as Countdown is not the same now. My two mustwatch programmes gone!

I haven't watched it for years but it was one soap I did watch in the good old days. I used to watch it at lunch-time with a very young DD before she started school.

Apparently it's lost its appeal in Australia.
Bring back Kylie and Jason!

MayBee70 Mon 07-Feb-22 16:11:41

Me too. I haven’t watched it for years but I loved it when the kids were young. I do miss having to watch programmes when they’re actually on and planning my day around them.

Callistemon21 Mon 07-Feb-22 16:14:41

I have an ear worm now and it's not the Neighbours theme (well, only intermittently).

Josieann Mon 07-Feb-22 16:24:36

Oh no, I enjoyed Neighbours for many years, especially when the children were little. Later on, when I came home from work it used to be my unwinding time.

Witzend Mon 07-Feb-22 16:26:44

Dds used to be addicted - many years ago now.

When dd2 was about 10, we took her and a school friend to Cornwall for a week in the Easter hols. Unbelievably, a Neighbours crew were filming in the same hotel we stayed at, and not only that, but filming at least one scene in the room next to where dd and friend were staying!

We only knew that because they asked if they could keep especially quiet for an hour or so.
Such excitement! But why they were filming in Cornwall, we never did find out.

nadateturbe Mon 07-Feb-22 17:18:20

Oh that was exciting Witzend.

Is it winter?

I haven't watched for years (as you can tell)

DiscoDancer1975 Mon 07-Feb-22 17:31:20

Is that still on?

Chestnut Mon 07-Feb-22 17:31:39

I think it lost a good number of followers when it went 'woke' with the storylines. It has many more UK viewers than Aussie viewers, and Channel 5 are the main backers. But they are not generating enough from the advertising apparently, so as usual it's all down to the money.

You'd think they'd have woken up, then.

I will admit to enjoying Neighbours. Loved that their editorial team evidently decided to ignore the Pandemic and keep their fantasy world of Erinsborough in a parallel world where Covid had not occured.

It has kept me cheered up through this time, and really would hate for it to be discontinued.

Roxy reminds me more and more of Kylie Minogue as Charlene. Even the same build.

Anniebach Mon 07-Feb-22 17:50:51

The three in a bed storyline was rubbish

Oldbat1 Mon 07-Feb-22 20:36:56

I’ve watched Neighbours since it started. My girls loved it in their youth but now it is sadly only me who watches. It is the only soap I watch. Fingers crossed some company bails it out.

It was. And imo not suitable for airing early afternoon.
To be honest most of the storylines are rubbish. But I still enjoy it.

It's mostly Paul that keeps me watching. He's always doing the wrong things for the right reasons, and the question is whether he can change his ways in order to keep his marriage.
He has been through so many disasters, and still remembers to limp having lost his leg.

Franbern Tue 08-Feb-22 09:47:18

Oh Yes, Paul is my favourite character. Now, even whilst firmly promising to Therese (and meaning it) not to lie again, he is involved in a new lie regarding his health.

Erinsborough is an anagram of neighbours.

Do hope another channel will take it on.
