I’ve always despised the man.
I’ve just read what he said about Gypsy Roma Traveller people, and I’m just disgusted.
I’ve worked extensively with Roma children and their families.
He has said that his ‘joke’ was an excellent one because it was ‘educational’.
I wish him nothing but ill.

Carr's itinerary consists of constant jokes about fat people (mostly women), minorities, sex, anuses, paedophiles, wheelchair users, children with special needs, menstruation, and abused / raped women.

If he's attempting to make a point, my uneducated mind is missing it, even tho' I've tried not to take his jokes at face value. Is he pointing out to us our own hypocrisy? His joke about dwarfism - "are dwarves just aborted foetuses that have survived" simply seems to me like a juvenile joke at the expense of those with this disability. Perhaps I'm missing something? I'm always willing to learn...

... or is he just a more sophisticated version of Bernard Manning?

Galaxy Sun 06-Feb-22 10:22:23

I loathe Boyle, another one where the misogyny is absolutely out there in the open. This is quite cathartic fanny smile

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Feb-22 10:20:11

That was horrendous what Boyle said about Harvey and Katie.

Callistemon21 Sun 06-Feb-22 10:11:47

He gives me the creeps too, he looks manic.
And he's a tax evader too.

A thoroughly nasty piece of work.

He's not alone, that other vile so-called comedian who mocked Katie Price's disabled son is back on TV.
Anyone who mocks the disabled in the name of comedy should never appear on TV again.

Aveline

The worst thing you can say about a comedian is that they're not funny.
Jimmy Carr is just not funny. ?

Ah, but he’d say that you aren’t clever enough
It’s the emperor’s new clothes

He has made millions by being not funny then, Aveline!

Not everyone likes him. But a lot of people do. C'est la vie.

Kate1949 Sun 06-Feb-22 10:10:51

Galaxy I would have hoped we had moved on and learned since Bernard Manning!

I bet if you dig around you could find a similar joke from Bernard Manning how is it different? Because one was from a working class background and one isnt?

Kate1949 Sun 06-Feb-22 10:04:03

He comes across as horrible and (in my opinion) about as funny as a kick in the head.

lavendermine Sun 06-Feb-22 09:59:44

Despicable man.

Riverwalk

I've no idea - but audiences often laugh at outrageous comments, then reflect.

I certainly did recently when I went to see 'Book of Mormon' some of the lines were hysterically funny about the most awful of subjects. It's one of the most successful musicals and been running for years.

Absolutely, Riverwalk

I've also seen Book of Mormon more than once.

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Feb-22 09:55:58

That’s excellent Galaxy
Spot on.

Galaxy Sun 06-Feb-22 09:55:12

As someone on MN said 'its postmodern hate speech so we can pat ourselves on the back and say we are better than those who laughed at Bernard Manning, we are so clever'.
I was going to put it in my own words but they said it better.

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Feb-22 09:53:32

I have an idea Riverwalk
They were being racist.

Prejudice towards GRT people, especially the Roma, is often referred to as being the acceptable form of racism

Shropshirelass Sun 06-Feb-22 09:52:51

I don’t like Jimmy Carr, I have always thought he was obnoxious, rude and ignorant. No change there then.

FarNorth Sun 06-Feb-22 09:52:43

I don't know what Carr said, apart from Fanny's post here, but I do know that a lot of people aren't very intelligent and take humour at face value eg those who aspired to be like Harry Enfield's character 'Loadsamoney'.
So 'educational' humour can have the opposite effect to that it intended or claimed for it.

Re the laughter and applause when he said that the murder of GRT people was ‘a positive’ of the Holocaust.

So it was the sound of the audience’s moral awakening; of them recognising their hypocrisy towards this persecuted minority?

Riverwalk Sun 06-Feb-22 09:36:38

FannyCornforth

Have you actually read what he said though Riverwalk?
I sort of agree with what you said; but it doesn’t actually apply to what he said.

Fanny I've only read what was reported in the press, is there more?

From what I can see he highlighted the hypocrisy of those who are selective about who is worthy for sympathy.

EllanVannin Sun 06-Feb-22 09:34:05

Yuk, horrible creature. I've never liked him.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 06-Feb-22 09:32:18

Riverwalk

I can see where he's coming from in a way.

There's a certain hypocrisy with those that shed tears about the Holocaust but would happily see Roma people banished from the UK, particularly if they were migrants from the EU.

Aren't we all a teensy weensy bit irritated, to say the least, with Travellers in the UK who often seem to be a law unto themselves with their illegal camps and not properly educating their children.

I think maybe Carr hit a raw nerve.

Wrong

This- I was truly shocked to read Riverwalk's comment. There are lots of people I get 'irritated' with- Johnson and his mates, for instance- but that doesn't mean I would wish for them to be gassed !!! Just sick.

Nortsat Sun 06-Feb-22 09:27:23

HowVery, because I have never watched him in anything, I didn’t realise this current vileness was part of a wider pattern.

How hideous.

Zoejory Sun 06-Feb-22 09:26:09

Kalu

I avoid watching anything he is part of. Don’t find him funny at all but his laugh, especially, just grates.

Got to agree about that laugh. It drives me mad.

However I shall admit that I have laughed at some of his stuff. It's very dark humour and not for everyone.

Wasn't keen on this joke though
