I saw this under the BBC entertainment page, and thought I'd give it a try. I have been gripped and have sat and watched episode after episode - I'm currently on episode 5.

The BBC blurb reads:

"This whole story is completely true. Except for the parts that are completely made up."

So begins every episode of Netflix's long-awaited new series Inventing Anna, about fraudster Anna Delvey, aka Anna Sorokin.

Twenty-something Anna conned friends and banks out of hundreds of thousands of dollars by masquerading as a rich heiress in New York City, before the law caught up with her.

Her story first exploded on social media in 2018, just as Netflix's big new signing - producer Shonda Rhimes - was looking for a juicy project."

I started watching it for a little while last night, had to stop to do something else, but will continue tonight. I was aware that it was being launched. I think it could be quite interesting once it develops I was only at the stage where the female journalist was visiting Anna in the Rikers Island jail.

Might give that one a try tonight!

Is the show still available on the Netflix app so that I can watch it..?

I remember reading a lot about Delvey a couple of years ago.
I will give it a go, thanks for mentioning this

I’m on Ep.2 watching on Netflix.
It’s addictive. 9 x 1hr episodes. It’s gripping. Loving it already! I shall definitely binge watch over the next few days.
Good job I don’t bake, craft, walk a dog, knit or do anything much that’s useful.

Yes? just finished episode 2.

These Walter Mitty type characters are so interesting. We watched the film with someone famous in about another famous Walter Mitty type character. (Sorry old age can’t remember the detail) a while back now.

I do wonder how they develop such personality traits ( disorder?) my ex-brother in law was one in a small way.

I watched the last episode last night. The verdict was interesting

I agree it is very good, I’ve watched the complete series interesting ending.

For a 26y old woman (in real life) she must have had some chutzpah to go with her intelligence. I agree WWmk2 such interesting characters who go to these lengths. There are a couple of films depicting such at present. The ‘Tinder Swindler’ about hooking vulnerable needy women on a dating app is one I shall watch after this series.

Another good one on the conning theme is The Puppet Master. This one makes you more incredulous as to what people will believe ?

I watched episode 1, interesting isn’t it. Plus, the actor playing Anna plays Ruth in Ozark. She’s excellent.

I really like her Iam64 she s a great actress (or actor as everyone says these days). I am mesmerised by her mouth when she talks with her ‘Ruskie’ accent! Ooh, can’t wait to settle down with Ep.3 after my stepfather has been taken home later after dinner today.

She must have been very clever. She drew in the glitterati (yacht cruising the Mediterranean off Ibiza, nearly got caught out there for a nanosecond, slightly awkward), the art gallery folk, bankers, hoteliers, hedge fund managers - as one person said ‘the only way in there is money or connections’. I’m curious though how (Ep.1 so not a spoiler in any way - it’s not easy trying to discuss on these threads is it as we are all at different episodes) she managed even in her earliest days how she managed to pay a nightly over $1,000 residency for months? Or did she? Just because her friend said she did ...

I finished it last night, I must have enjoyed it because I didn't abandon it halfway through which is a habit of mine these days. I did that with Ozark it bored me after the first series, one of my sons loves it and tells me I should have stuck with it, but once I find I'm not really engaged anymore that's it for me. Do agree with others, the actress playing Anna was excellent, quirky in a mesmerising way, as was the whole convoluted deception. Loved Anna's accent which floated about a bit but I think that happens when people have lived in several countries, but I imagine she nailed it.

Some of the actors who are playing the grifters!

So I thought it was amazing. Binged it in a day and a half. Then I read Rachel’s book. I think they did a great job with the series. I can’t wait for Jessica Presslers book to come out in June I believe. The Netflix series was based off of Pressler’s article, and speaking with her. There is an HBO episode that is based off of Rachel’s experience. Overall I thought it was really good and worth the watch.
