We had a sort of smallholding and the main problem is you can never just go away for a break and leave everything on its own.
eg the chickens and other poultry need to be minimum fed and shut in at night and let out every morning. Let alone the needs of the bigger animals if you have them.
Ideally you need permanent help or friends to help out if you go away

I’m not a meat eater either, but I applaud the chefs/cooks who use every bit of the animal and waste nothing.

Watched a bit of yesterday's programme and felt rather sick! I do not eat red meat, and he was cooking some part of a lamb - a sort of floppy slab of meat that was mostly fat - just looking at it was revolting, let alone eating it!! Ughhh!

What amazes me with these novice gardeners is all the beautiful, perfect fruit and vegetables they manage to grow as soon as they decide to take up gardening ! Yes, he must have a lot of 'help' (ie a full-time experienced gardener) shysal.

Luckygirl I was determined to avoid Kelvin Fletcher's Big Farm Adventure (I don't watch soaps but do know who he is). Then I caught one programme and was hooked. What a lovely family and they seem to be trying really hard to, learn and fit in with the area and the neighbours

Oh I will watch this I have one of his books somewhere and it was such a lovely classics type cookbook and it really helped me on my way to getting fat

One of our sons and his wife went to his restaurant in The Berkeley, Knightsbridge on Saturday evening, and they said all the food was extremely tasty.
