Wish I could. Sounds just my cup of tea. Don't have any of the tv extras. Just basic no frills channels. Don't mind a bit until I read of a programme like this. Frustrated for an instant but it soon passes. So glad you're enjoying it and thanks for sharing info.

We watched this ages ago when it was first one. I thought it was great. Very atmospheric.

I’ve read all the books but not seen it on television.

My eldest son bought me the DVD of the first series. Loved it so much that I bought the second series, and have pre-ordered the third. Very much looking forward to watching it.

I watched the first series a few years ago and loved it. We don’t have Sky now and our Now tv cheap offer just expired so I can’t watch anymore.

I’m late to this and gripped. I’m still on series one and have just watch The Fiancés. The music is good too. Lenù doesn’t say much, does she, but she observes. Masterclass in how to express emotion without words.

I loved the episode in Ischia where Lenù bloomed (but sadly it ended badly because of the odius Sarratore) and now Nino doesn't understand why she's snubbing him at school.

There’s a constant undercurrent of menace among the young men which boils over into violence at the slightest provocation. I fear the competition for Lila is going to have serious repercussions. Marcello Solara looks ready to explode.

Off to watch the next episode.

I've just got to the end of Season 3, loved every episode but now I need to go back to the start because the ending has triggered a memory from Season 1.

I read the first book, but strangely I have preferred watching the series. Usually I prefer a book to a dramatisation, but this production is just so perfectly presented- beautiful cinematography, you can see the Italian light and almost feel the sunshine, meticulous attention to details of the era, politics, fashion, cars, furniture, but most of all the excellent standard of acting.

If you are enjoying My Beautiful Friend, you might like The Lost Daughter, a film of another Elena Ferrante novel, starring Olivia Coleman, very similar themes. I think it's on Netflix.

Grannmarie. I watched Lost Daughter a few months ago and found it intriguing. Again, the family which took over the beach had that undercurrent of menace but Leda herself (Olivia Colman) wasn't a terribly nice person was she - the oddly disturbing business with the doll. Some of it was explained in the scenes with the younger Leda (Jessie Buckley) but I was left with a lot of questions. I hadn't realised it was a Ferrante novel so I may read it. Thanks.

You might enjoy the first episode of Richard E Grant's Write Around the World (well all of them really) but in the first one he explores Ferrante's Naples. On BBC iPlayer.

The child actors were excellent and the adult actors only 18 and 19 - I thought they were superb.
