From Monday at 6 pm on Drama ( 20 ) they are showing "Butterflies "for the first time in years. I loved this programme , probably because we had teenagers ourselves at the time , and every time I hear Barber's Adagio for Strings I think of the sad bits when Rhea met with her male friend and had to walk away . I hope we still enjoy it as much as the reruns of "Yes Minister " which we are watching for the umteenth time .

Oh. Ok Kate1949. I'll check back here in a while..

DiscoDancer1975 Sat 02-Apr-22 11:19:20

I loved the family scenes, but not those with Wendy Craig and her boring male ‘ friend’ or whatever he was....just irritated me.

Don’t think I could watch it now.

Apologies henetha I've just checked our recordings. We watched it on Gold but they seem to have taken it off now. It's only on Drama. Monday 5.30 just before Butterflies.

Thank you again Kate. I now have a date with Drama on Monday! For both programmes!
I appreciate you finding this out for me. Sending flowers

I'm glad you mentioned this Floradora9. This was a real favourite of mine, I sort of identified with her! I will definitely watch it again.
Another series I could happily watch again is "Ever Decreasing Circles".

Well more joy of joys it will be on Drama at 5.30 pm on Mondays I have just heard . I just loved it too especially Howard And Hilda and I swooned over Peter Regan .

Thank you Floradora9. They just don't make programmes like this any more, do they. Yes, oh my goodness, Howard and Hilda, and the gorgeous Peter Reagan. I can hardly wait to see it again. And, of course, Butterflies. So grateful to you.

henetha Sat 02-Apr-22 11:56:11

Oh, and it was Richard Briers and Penelope Wilton, I think, as the couple. They were all so good.

Kate1949 Sat 02-Apr-22 12:03:42

Yes Peter Egan it was. He was in Afterlife recently. He is friends with Ricky Gervais. I loved Howard and Hilda.

Kate1949 Sat 02-Apr-22 12:04:33

Thank you henetha.

Thankyou Floradora - loved it. Nicholas Lindhurst went on to become a big star . What did happen to the other lad?

Andrew Hall.
He was a theatre director. I saw a play directed by him just before he died in 2019, aged 65. Very sad.

He also appeared in Corro and Stenders which I wasn’t aware of.

Oh yes, Peter Egan! I enjoyed Afterlife too...
Cheers! Thanks!

Oh dear! I couldn’t abide Ever Decreasing Circles either! I enjoyed The Good Life, Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister.

Yes, he played Audrey Roberts love interest( briefly) in Corrie.

Remember thinking what a difference, hunky attractive young son in Butterflies, then OAP in Corrie.

Thanks FC - so sad ?

I adored Butterflies but even as a teenager her Ria was so annoying. Why on earth did she need a cleaner, couldn't master basic cookery and why couldn't she get a blinking job?

I’ll have a look in on Butterflies again and see what locations I can spot. DD used to live in Cheltenham.

Afraid I agree with Ladyleftfieldlover and eazibee. On seeing it a few years ago I felt the series had not traveled at all well.

It left me just wanting to shake her and tell her to get a purpose to her life. Volunteering, learning something - anything , but yes overwhelmingly a job.

To waft with no purpose, no sense of achievement, no success in any aspect of her life, it’s unsurprising that anti depressants were so widely prescribed at the time!

It was of it's time, I think, just as surely as the more crass type of humour.
It always seemed a bit navel gazerish to me, but then I was too young to understand all the nuances, I suppose.

How I wish I had access to the Drama channel. I do have a smart tv but, unfortunately, it doesn't have an equally smart owner. I loved Butterflies. Their constant slick and sharply witty lines were a joy. Oh yesss.........

You will find Drama on channel 20 (Freeview) and also on UKTV Play which you'll find with the other free apps, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, Channel 5 and more.

MissAdventure Sun 03-Apr-22 00:37:35

Oh I'm glad you said that.
I never understand a word when people talk about iplayer or catch up...
I understand freeview number 20, though. smile

Chestnut Sun 03-Apr-22 01:09:44

You should have access to various apps for BBC iPlayer etc. and also Netflix and other paying channels. These are streaming channels where you can either catchup the free ones like BBC or see paid-for programmes like Netflix. Catchup means you can see the whole series rather than watch it once a week on TV.

MissAdventure Sun 03-Apr-22 01:12:59

Should I?
Mine isn't a smart tv (neither is its owner!)
My grandson can get Netflix but he has the newer (by about 15 years) tv.

nadateturbe Sun 03-Apr-22 02:49:43

MissAdventure you could get a Firestick which turns your tv into a smart TV.

Kim19 Sun 03-Apr-22 10:47:55

Thank you, Chestnut. Tried 20. Zilch. However, I will certainly pursue on iplayer. Again....??

It's possible you can't get that channel in your area. I can't get all the Freeview channels but I can get 20. It may depend on your transmitter and the direction of your aerial. Try scanning for new channels, you never know.
