is stepping back from Pointless after nearly 13 years on the show, the BBC has announced.

The presenter and novelist, 51, has co-hosted the BBC One gameshow alongside Alexander Armstrong since its first edition in 2009.

Crikey, that's it then!

Urmstongran Fri 08-Apr-22 15:42:24

Apologies. Ignore this thread.
This has already been mentioned on the other Richard Osman thread.

grannylyn65 Fri 08-Apr-22 15:47:41

Fascinating

Zoejory Fri 08-Apr-22 15:47:55

Not to worry, Urmstongran!

That thread was the House of Cards. I think this is worthy of a new thread smile

What a shame. He and Alexander work so well together. Although it must get boring doing the same thing for a long time.

Fascinating

Really?

well he doesn't have to bother with that now that he is a very successful author. i wouldn't either.
good luck to him.

Oh good. Less Osman can’t be bad.

Lucca

Oh good. Less Osman can’t be bad.

Oh.

I must disagree, I like him.
Haven't read his books though.

Sparklefizz Fri 08-Apr-22 17:34:07

I am fed up with the jokes and don't find them funny. (I enjoy his books though smile )

Callistemon21 Fri 08-Apr-22 17:43:13

Actually, I rarely watch it - DH likes The Chase

Today's Richard Osman's House of Games is number 125 of 140. I hope he will not be giving that up too at the end of the series.

I don't mind him on Pointless, it is Alexander's 'thank you very much' every few seconds that drives me mad!

I didn't enjoy Richard's first book, so more time for writing will be lost on me.

nadateturbe Fri 08-Apr-22 22:20:10

My OH likes his books.
I really like quiz programmes, even Tipping Point, but I've never watched the Chase.

I don't think having different guests each week will work well

LauraNorderr Sat 09-Apr-22 05:45:24

Hopefully Alexander Armstrong will thank him very much indeed

Just seen he’s leaving to concentrate on his writing career.

I didn’t like the first book and haven’t read the second.

lemsip Sat 09-Apr-22 10:09:35

Richard Osman 'invented pointless' and he and Alexander Armstrong have been mates since meeting at Cambridge...
Richard will continue to host the celebrity shows.
The book is a best seller, I bought it when it first came out but just couldn't get into it, not my cup of tea at all.
I love House of Games though.

Curlywhirly Sat 09-Apr-22 11:08:46

I read his 1st book and wasn't keen either. I was surprised that David Walliams, in his autobiography, absolutely slated Richard - he didn't like him at all, and I must admit from David's description he didn't sound a very nice chap (and yes, I do agree, there are always 2 sides to a story!).

Chewbacca Sat 09-Apr-22 11:15:49

David Walliams didn't think much of Richard Osman? Hmmmm.... I know who's company I'd rather be in and it wouldn't be Walliams

gulligranny Sat 09-Apr-22 11:23:37

I really like Richard Osman and I enjoy Pointless as the questions assume a certain amount of knowledge/intelligence. He and Alexander Armstrong work well together so it will be interesting to see who takes over.

Also like House of Games, off-the-wall but very clever. DH & I always sit down together to watch that, it's part of our day.

We've both also read Richard's books and we love them!

lemsip Sat 09-Apr-22 12:48:32

Can't stand David Walliams he is so full of himself.....I don't find him at all funny.

sodapop Sat 09-Apr-22 13:21:51

Lucca

Agree Lucca he is so fond of the sound of his own voice, I find him irritating.

I think he overestimates the success his books will bring him. He shouldn't put all his eggs in that basket. Alone here on Gransnet 95% of the comments were negative.

He will probably carry on with his TV producing. He's not a bad chap - at least he didn't come over as such on Desert Island Discs. And his comments on House of Games even to the stupidest of contestants are very tactful.

annodomini Sun 10-Apr-22 11:20:10

JackyB, he already had a successful career in script writing and presenting, also appearing in such shows as Have I Got News for You? and Would I Lie to You? As for 'overestimating' his success? No sooner was The Thursday Murder Club published than it was optioned for filming. I am sure that he will continue to be seen on our screens even though not on Pointless. I foresee a whole series of 'Murder Club' in the future - maybe on Netflix!
