Did you all agree with the result?

I did as it had to be something that could easily be replicated. Well done the winner.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 12-May-22 21:10:44

Not sure. I like a trifle and make a traditional recipe without jelly! I thought the tart looked lovely and was probably my favourite. Gosh, hasn’t Camilla got a smoker’s voice?

Urmstongran Thu 12-May-22 21:11:02

What was it please?

merlotgran Thu 12-May-22 21:17:05

The winner was the trifle, Urmstongran. I think it's easy to modify a trifle to suit your own or your family's taste whereas some of the recipes looked quite complicated.

The tart was lovely.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 12-May-22 21:18:07

A many layered trifle including jelly. The base was Swiss roll. The judges loved it. I think the recipe will be shared but I hope the recipes for the other puddings will be made available.

I loved the winning idea. I wouldn’t have liked to be on the judging panel as there were so many good entries.

eGJ Thu 12-May-22 21:26:51

The recipe is on www.fortnumandmadon.com

Aveline Thu 12-May-22 21:26:57

I agree. It seems more easily replicable than those fancy cakes. A little bit different too. I love lemon flavour. We'll done Gemma!

Callistemon21 Thu 12-May-22 21:37:17

I voted for the trifle.
It looked delicious.

Now, to find a cheat's way to get a similar result ?

Elizabeth27 Thu 12-May-22 21:45:04

I expect there will be supermarket versions of the trifle within days, I shall look forward to trying them.

eGJ Thu 12-May-22 21:46:13

Typo, sorry www.fortnumandmason.com. Looks easy to adapt and to use bought elements, but the bark looks fun.

merlotgran Thu 12-May-22 21:47:48

I'm going to have to invent a gluten free version. Three coeliacs in the family including me. grin

eGJ Thu 12-May-22 21:48:20

Just scrolled down and there is the cheat’s version. Hurrah, think I can make it but not for 20 as you’d need ahuge dish?

sodapop Thu 12-May-22 22:01:52

Definitely the tart for me, looked so much more appetising than the trifle.

Callistemon21 Thu 12-May-22 22:05:48

And the tart .....
But it does involve making pastry.

Blossoming Thu 12-May-22 22:45:01

Think I’ll get a Bird’s Trifle mix …

Callistemon21 Thu 12-May-22 22:48:16

I'd have to adapt it - no amaretti biscuits, no white chocolate
......
I can hear DH now - isn't there any sherry in it?

I do like citrussy puds though.

Blossoming Thu 12-May-22 22:51:47

A lemon curd tart would be lovely.

crazyH Thu 12-May-22 22:52:07

No, that wasn’t my favourite. Tart, for me too.

merlotgran Thu 12-May-22 22:52:10

I can hear DH now - isn't there any sherry in it?

Do you think sherry trifle might be in our DNA? grin

Jane43 Thu 12-May-22 22:55:10

Blossoming

Think I’ll get a Bird’s Trifle mix …

Oh my goodness I’ve made a few of those in the past because our younger son didn’t like cream, so has our DIL since he got married but a few years ago on holiday in Cornwall he decided he liked clotted cream and now he eats anything with cream in so no more Bird’s trifles thank goodness for all concerned.

Teacheranne Thu 12-May-22 23:24:20

I’ve read the recipe and I won’t be making it - the thought of making my own lemon Swiss roll, lemon curd, jelly using gelatine and the shards on top puts me off!

Yangste1007 Thu 12-May-22 23:40:13

I thought the whole thing was ridiculous. I thought the idea was for the pudding/dessert to be simple and easily replicated by folk at home. There is no way I would bother making any of those offerings.

Calendargirl Fri 13-May-22 06:47:59

Surely if you were first in line for your pud to be tasted, the judges would be keener on it than if you were last?

Some of the ‘tastings’ looked quite large. By the time you got to number 5, personally I would be longing for something
savoury to take away all that yummy sweetness though.

Mary Berry did say she had not had any breakfast in anticipation.

MawtheMerrier Fri 13-May-22 08:10:18

I think the winning entry is a mess (and I don’t mean Eton Mess)
Too fussy, too many flavours, too many elements, typical of the sort of “showstopper” featured on programmes like Great British Bake-Off - and decorated to death.
Also -this might not be popular - jelly has no place in a trifle.
