Did anyone else watch this?

There were so many characters, all linked or related in some way, that it is going to take some sorting out. Five more episodes to find out who is who ?

If it wasn't for the title I wouldn't have realised from most of the accents that it was set in the Midlands, although I did hear someone addressed as "duck".

We spent a lot of time spotting known faces - "Oh, it's him!" "Oh, it's her!" "Where have we seen them before?"

The acting is good.
David Morrissey is excellent.

So was I.

Grannmarie Tue 28-Jun-22 23:15:24

I was disappointed with tonight's episode.

Doodledog Tue 28-Jun-22 22:52:49

I wonder what the second series will be about.

The 'old sins cast long shadows' thing has been thoroughly explored in this one, so unless there is something new that connects the spies-poets it's difficult to know. It would be a shame to lose such an excellent cast though. I hope they keep them all in the next series.

I've just read that there's going to be a second series.

I don’t know why they don’t just put all the tennis on BBC2. It would save us having to keep swapping around. Not everyone wants to watch tennis all the time.

Why do they keep interrupting the tennis with loud adverts for BBC3 which no-one watches anyway?
Why not turn it into a dedicated sports channel?

Kate1949 Tue 28-Jun-22 22:20:35

B****y tennis. I recorded Extraordinary Portraits, settled down to watch it but no. Tennis angry

merlotgran Tue 28-Jun-22 22:18:43

I found the ending depressing.

Well I'm not sure about that ending.

Aveline Tue 28-Jun-22 21:22:51

Is it not available on I player? That's where I look for displaced programmes. I'm recording it anyway. Looking forward to watching it tomorrow pm. No spoilers please!!

Is the BBC deliberately shooting itself in the foot? Publicise a prestige show like Sherwood and suddenly move it to another channel with no warning (fortunately I realised the tennis was carrying on and I went searching for it) Now they are cancelling Mary Beard's culture programme which is one of the few things I really enjoy. We have the usual empty promises about making room for even better programmes, you know, the ones that never do materialise. If they cancel enough they'll be able to say that losing our free TV licence doesn't matter because none of us are watching anything.

I was waiting for it to come on and after 20 minutes I texted my son and he said it was on BBC2. I’m sure there was no announcement about that change. So I decided to see if it was on the iPlayer and it was. I hope there is no messing about with tonight’s episode.

Mazgg Tue 28-Jun-22 15:37:11

Thank you Doodledog. A very good recap. I am now up to date and waiting for tonight's episode .

eazybee Tue 28-Jun-22 14:55:49

I was furious; I have recorded all the episodes on series link but when I switched on the recording there was Andy Murray doing his usual cliff-hanger act, again.
Why was Wimbledon not transferred to BBC2?

I managed to watch it on catch-up. Have enjoyed it; the excellent actors carry a rather improbable plot along, but I have no idea what the conclusion will be.

Doodledog Tue 28-Jun-22 13:20:07

There's a good recap of the episode here Mazgg.

It was really annoying, last night. I did think to look on BBC2, but there was no warning, so I was muttering as I did so. I can't wait for the finale tonight.

Mazgg Tue 28-Jun-22 11:43:10

I missed quite a bit of last nights episode as I had it set to record and of course it was switched to BBC2 and did not record. By the time I found out about the change I had missed about 20 minutes of it. Wish BBC had plus 1 hour.

Phillip Jackson hails from Retford, Nottinghamshire hence the authentic accent.

Well done, Callistemon, I didn't see that coming at all, great twist!
DH always groans and asks if I write the scripts ?

Grannmarie Mon 27-Jun-22 22:28:46

I am so used to binge watching drama, I can hardly wait till tomorrow night.

Callistemon21 Mon 27-Jun-22 22:04:45

I knew it! I said it to DH half an hour before ?

Pittcity Mon 27-Jun-22 22:01:03

Yet another twist!
Very clever to get Robert Glenister's real son to play him in the 80s. They have the same eyes and mannerisms.

lemsip Fri 24-Jun-22 21:00:52

oh dear.......sherwood of course...thanks ...silly me

Calendargirl Fri 24-Jun-22 20:47:23

I just couldn't get into sherlock.. the only one it seems........I should have persevered

Sherlock?

Or Sherwood?

Doodledog Fri 24-Jun-22 20:47:22

Maybe try again on iPlayer, lemsip?

I have sometimes found that I was put off a programme for some reason (usually me not paying attention at an important moment and missing something important), but gone on to love it when I gave it a second chance.
