My favourite TV series (currently)

I have just taken on Disney+ in order to watch The Bear and Only Murders in the Building which my daughter has recommended. I have watched the first series of The Bear so far and really enjoyed it. The acting is incredible.

The other series that we have really enjoyed this year has been The Traitors Australia BBC3 which is still available on iplayer. If you enjoyed the UK version, then I think you will like the Australian version.

One of the best series I have watched is The Newsroom starring Jeff Daniels and Emily Mortimer. There are three series and I was sad when it came to an end. It was written by Aaron Sorkin who wrote The West Wing and I watched it on Now tv so presumably it is on Sky too.

I also liked The Comey Rule which is about FBI Director James Comey’s experience working with Donald Trump. It is on Netflix and also stars Jeff Daniels.

New series of Virgin River coming in September!
I tried to watch Yellowstone but found it hard to comprehend. The subtitles helped.

Oh, and I just finished Good Omens 2. A bit scattergun but enjoyable. I think they ran out of ideas after the last series.

I am really looking forward to the next series of Virgin River on Netflix. I got very caught up in the whole series even though I didn’t think it was really my thing. I binge watched West Wing three times - loved it. Likewise Last Kingdom. I enjoyed Longmire too. I might give Yellowstone a go.

Tanith, 1923 is very good too, it is 40 years on from 1883, Helen Mirren stars in it. One of the characters is a big game hunter and he is the younger son of the main characters in 1883, he was born after they settled in Yellowstone, Helen Mirren is his aunt and the matriarch of the Dutton family. I am just about to embark on Yellowstone, it may take me a while to get through all the series though.

Yellowstone is now on My5. Watched it last night but struggled to understand what they were saying without subtitles. Does anyone know if there’s an online synopsis of each episode? I did briefly look but couldn’t find one. I’d love to watch the prequel, though. If I can’t understand what Helen Mirren is saying I’ll give up!

I only knew it was the last because I Googled, what I read put my mind at ease about Larry. I knew TE had played EJ, but I haven’t seen the film, I’m not much of an Elton fan.

Should be Taron Egerton, my iPad changed the name to Everton.

I agree that the actor who is playing the serial killer in Black Bird is very good. Did you know that Taron Everton the lead actor played Elton John in the recent biopic of his life, a very different role? I didn’t realise that next week is the last episode.

Jane43 I’m loving Black Bird, Larry is so creepy isn’t he? That voice and those mannerisms just make me shudder, it’s fantastic acting. The latest episode where he’s talking about what he did to the young girl was so well written, it was truly horrific. And the fact it’s based on a true story just makes it even harder to watch at times. Episode six next Friday is the last one.
I’ll have a look at the SLJackson one, I nearly always enjoy anything he’s in.

If so, have you watched See? Jason Momoa is the only “face” I know in it, and I love it, can’t wait for season three to start in August. The concept is mad, but the cinematography and the costumes are excellent, stunningly beautiful.
In fact, there’s a lot of good stuff on Apple, I had a free 12 month subscription with my iPad, and have kept it on, it’s only £4.99 each month.
Ted Lasso is brilliant, and I’m currently watching For All Mankind (mentioned earlier in this thread) and Black Bird which is based on a true story of a serial killer. I’ve also enjoyed Severance, which I’m not going to even try to describe, it’s so odd. Wasn’t so keen on The Morning Show, Invasion or Foundation.

grannydarkhair I am watching more on Apple TV than anything else at the moment. I just started to watch The Last Days Of Ptolemy Grey starring Samuel L Jackson, it is very good so far. I think Black Bird is very good too.

If it’s been a series that I’ve particularly enjoyed, I sometimes buy the box set. The Sopranos, The West Wing, Deadwood, Oz, Rome, Vikings, The Thick of It, Two and a Half Men, Frasier are some of my favourites that I enjoy being able to watch whenever I feel like it.
Never seen any of Stranger Things, my daughter loves it.

I haven’t seen The Last Kingdom since it moved from BBC but I might be able to watch it at my daughters. There are so many series I haven’t got round to watching on BBC so if I subscribed to anything I’d struggle to watch them. When I dog sit for my daughter I’m hoping to watch Stranger Things which I haven’t seen since season one.

I mostly disliked Ivar, but he did have some more likeable moments. But yes, after Ragnar dies, none of the other characters grip you the way he does. Some of those sideway smiles of his, and although I’ve never been keen on blue eyes, he’s so attractive, swoon ?
I liked King Ecbert, Athelstan and Lagertha, but once they’ve all gone, it is very poor in parts. Floki, who I loved, re-appears towards the very end (won’t say where in case you do want to watch it some day).
No, I’ve not seen any of Britannia. I have seen some of The Last Kingdom, and really like the Bernard Cornwall books that it’s based on.

I don’t think I’ve got the very last series but I bought the later ones (season 5) and don’t think I watched them. I just didn’t like Ivar. In the early series I’d often watch it and think how far fetched it was (eg Paris) only to find it did actually happen. Travis was more than just gorgeous though, wasn’t he. He just totally owned every scene he was in. Have you watched Britannia?

Purplepoppies Have you seen Henry Cavill in Witcher? Or Travis Fimmel in Vikings? Now, there’re both magnificent eye candy. And yes, I know that’s sexist.

I went off Vikings when Travis was no longer in it. Not just because he was so gorgeous…the storyline wasn’t bas good.

I too loved mad men. The great fashion of that time and the way women were treated as it was the norm. As for Don Draper…gorgeous!

Has anyone else watched the Mad Men series? It's about advertising in Manhattan in the 60's, absolutely fantastic - the acting, the fashion - and the social history.

I loved Mad Men, a fantastic series with great storylines. Also loved the clothes and houses, not forgetting the good looking men, especially John Hamn

Better Call Saul. The last 6 episodes start on Netflix this week. Sadly then the whole Breaking Bad/BCS sag ends, most probably.
Just one of the best tv series ever.

Agree with this. We started reviewing this a short while ago and are completely addicted. Also will feel a great empty space when it finishes. Wondering about watching Breaking Bad if that is available.
