They are trying to tie up all loose ends and bringing back as many of the old cast as they can fit in. It is really laughable!

Thanks for the information Ailidh.
And Chestnut.

I just don't understand how a programme that is so popular that it has featured on the news today, is being scrapped.
Home and Away is being shown in its place.
However it was ended in a way that it could be resurrected. ?

It was predominantly funded by Channel 5, and it ran at a £5 million loss year on year. C5 warned Fremantle that it couldn't sustain that loss but they didn't lower their costs.

C5 only pay to show Home and Away, they don't pay th cost of making it.

I've enjoyed Neighbours from the beginning, and I'll miss it. Mildly. Never did understand why it wasn't popular in its home country.

It’s funny that where it was filmed, Vermont, is the most boring suburb. Very dull area, nothing lively about it. Solid middle class. We used to laugh when they took tourists there.

And what about Paul and Therese?

I predict they will come back together in the final episode, kiss passionately and then gaze deeply into each other's eyes. In the background stands Glen watching. He knows now he will never be more than second best.

Ha ha! I was nearly right, except that Glen knew he would never be more than second best a couple of days earlier.

Channel Five says it is not doing Classic Neighbours so I will try Drama channel and ITV3 who are both showing classic soaps. You never know....

They are destroying the set so it will never be resurrected.

I really enjoyed the finale and, unexpectedly, shed a tear, especially at the "ghosts", especially at ghost Finn.

I thought it affectionately done.

I watched the grand finale and enjoyed it. Sad it is no more. At least we got another glimpse of Hendrix. As others have posted, 'Thanks for the great entertainment', and the issues explored which gave voice to a great many teenage debates in my classroom.

Filming the entire cast on the same day would be impossible,
Filming one 25 minute episode in a day would be impossible

I really enjoyed Neighbours last night but it was fairly evident that Guy Pearce didn’t film on the same day as Jason and Kylie, and none of them filmed on the same day as the wedding! It was all great fun though and lovely to see them all.
Australian soaps are fab. I’m currently watching the Heart Guy. I’d love to watch A Country Practice again.

I haven’t watched it since dds were at home and still at school. Which is an awful long time ago now.

One ‘Neighbours’ association’ does stick in my head, though. Dds both attended a very selective senior school - selection was by exam, followed by an interview, if you reached a certain standard in the exam, but being asked to attend an interview did not guarantee a place.

I knew that some of the other girls at school were rigorously coached in what to say at the interview - one was told to say that she watched only documentaries and certain children’s programmes such as Blue Peter. Which was very possibly true, given what I knew of her mother.

I told dd just to be herself, and if they didn’t want her it was their loss.
So at the interview, when the (excellent) head asked, ‘Now, what about the box?’ she said, ‘Well, actually my favourite programme’s Neighbours.’

She got a place - the restricted-TV one didn’t.

Thank you suep1953, yes it was A Country Practice.

I keep remembering other series I liked to watch, Take the High Road, Knots Landing and Brookside.

Why don’t they make new series anymore?

Sad that there`ll be no more.........................unless...................?

Thanks, Neighbours, for the many hours of genuine light entertainment you have brought us all.

said with a lump in my throat.

Definitely feel that that 'final' episode should have had the final tag line ....'To Be Continued....' Happy endings for many, but all still staying in Ramsey Street.
So pleased they did bring Therese and Paul back together.
I enjoyed many of the flashbacks.
Thanks, Neighbours, for the many hours of genuine light entertainment you have brought us all.

I agree atqui. Pointless when the programme was ending.

Atqui Fri 29-Jul-22 22:45:14

Don’t know why they had to kill off Hendrix when everyone else lived happily ever after!

suep1953 Fri 29-Jul-22 22:27:47

LadyGracie

I’ve watched Neighbours from the beginning and loved it despite some of the storylines being unbelievable and recently even more unbelievable.

I also loved Sons and Daughters and The Sullivans, I can’t remember the name of the one with the vets.

I think it was A Country Practice

I used to watch Neighbours with my DD when she was a toodler at nap time. We would curl up on the sofa together and she would soon fall asleep.
She is 35 now and I haven't watched it for a very long time.

Same here! I’ve been at work and recorded all today’s programmes to watch over the weekend.

Anniebach Fri 29-Jul-22 21:43:55

Yes, sad night
