Is anybody else watching the death throes of Neighbours?

They are trying to tie up all loose ends and bringing back as many of the old cast as they can fit in. It is really laughable!

I am going to miss it. It is really silly now I agree but it is what is I guess, they are trying to get as many old faces in as possible before the end next week.

I used to watch Neighbours with my DD when she was a toodler at nap time. We would curl up on the sofa together and she would soon fall asleep.
She is 35 now and I haven't watched it for a very long time.

My favourite programme but yes, it's silly at the minute.
I'll be very sad on the last day.

yes, I'm watching, can't make head nor tale of it.... all very mixed up scripts. used to always watch it.

It's pretty grim. It's like watching a works pantomime, where they try and get every person who has ever worked for the company to take part.

It’s fun, will they resurrect Mrs Mangle

Yes I watched Neighbours with my children from the very start. I still watch it but it is a bit ridiculous currently. Lots of characters have returned for their goodbyes. Toady is marrying Melanie so the wedding is the final scene I guess. I for one will miss Neighbours - it is the only soap I’ve watched. It is a shame for all the Australian actors who will miss out on the experience.

Yes I’m watching as I have since the start and I’m going to miss it. I only follow Aussie soaps as ours are too grim.
I’m enjoying the way old characters are being shoehorned into the script , several funny moments too like the comment on the photo album “she looks like 3 different people”.
Sad there’s only one week to go.

I'm going to miss it very much too Treebee.
I have volumes 22 and 23 of The Sullivans, another Melbourne family soap, lined up to take over. That will keep me going for a year.

I will definitely be missing this show. Mon-Fridays I watch it whilst eating my main meal of the day. Love the fantasy, and the sun. Love Paul!!!! Loved the fact that the editorial team obviously made the big decision that Pandemics, etc do not fit into their fantasy world, so no covid has ever been in Neighbours world. Am so grateful to them for that decision and also for the fact that they continued filming episodes right the way through the epidemic (the only Soap so to do).

I still have some sort of outlandish hope that some company somewhere will decide to re-start this within the year.

Think it rather nice to see so many of the old characters returning, desperate attempts to get all story lines completed and (being Neighbours) with happy endings!!!

Hope to see Classic Neighbours being screened somewhere soon.

I was rather hoping there might be a spin-off. Perhaps follow Toady and family on their new path but I don’t think it will happen. I’m going to miss it as I always watch while eating breakfast.

I used to pick DS up from nursery and subject him to The Sullivans, it was on at lunch-time.
He still remembers ?

So funny when Malcolm turned up with Izzie, if he marries her
he will be step father to his half sister

nadateturbe Sat 23-Jul-22 13:02:36

Good post Franbern. It is nice to see old characters.

Anniebach I was thinking that too And if they have a child together....her relationship to Holly. ?

Kim19 Sat 23-Jul-22 13:15:45

Some have certainly aged better than others. A bit like myself!

mokryna Sat 23-Jul-22 13:23:47

I have never to my knowledge watch neighbours even though I can watch it France. Can I have a badge please?

Anniebach Sat 23-Jul-22 13:39:26

nadateturbe think I got it ! Malcolm marries Izzy, they have a daughter Polly, Carl will be father to Holly and grandfather to
her sister Polly, Susan will be grandmother to Polly but no relationship to Holly . Libby will be half sister to Holly and aunt to Polly , yes ?

dragonfly46 Sat 23-Jul-22 13:47:39

Annie grin
I shall really miss it.

I'm an Aussie soap fan as both Neighbours and Home and Away are such fluffy nonsense they lighten the day. I watch them while eating lunch and dinner unless out or have visitors. I would never watch the awful UK soaps which are depressing and negative. I want my soaps to have plenty of frothy bubbles!

I would love them to rake out some really old episodes and have Classic Neighbours instead!

Chestnut Sat 23-Jul-22 15:04:44

I agree Franbern about Paul and I'm a big fan too! His character is like Jekyll and Hyde, always interesting. He does the most awful things for all the right reasons, can be utterly heartless. But then when he's been hurt you get the sad, puppy dog eyes and feel sorry for him! ?

So complicated. No wonder Susan is stressed.

Is Susan stepgran to Holly?
Holly will be step-aunt to Polly and also half-sister? Non?
I think nerdle is easier. ?

Chestnut Sat 23-Jul-22 15:49:15

And what about Paul and Therese?

I predict they will come back together in the final episode, kiss passionately and then gaze deeply into each other's eyes. In the background stands Glen watching. He knows now he will never be more than second best.

Another Australian series I’ve enjoyed is “A place to call Home” and also enjoyed New Zealand program “500 words” and “Brokenwood Mysteries”.
