Is anybody else watching the death throes of Neighbours?

They are trying to tie up all loose ends and bringing back as many of the old cast as they can fit in. It is really laughable!

I'm really hoping they will ease the pain by showing Classic Neighbours then we can live it all over again! Old episodes only, nothing too recent. I think I'll write a begging letter to Channel Five.

I feel bereft already

Me too Oldbat1. I've just shed a few tears.
I'm going to miss it so much.

There is a “ghost” appearance seemingly. Madge? Hendrix? Ooh. I really can’t believe the powers have sacrificed Neighbours - I feel bereft already.

Who has bought the property in the street ? Kylie and Jason ?

I am watching it to the bitter end as it is my 20 minute escape after lunch. I will be interested to see how all the story lines are tied up for last episode. I hate a cliffhanger that's never resolved. I thought it finished at the end of August, so somewhat traumatised I only have a handful more. Stiff drinks will be required.
I, too, await the resurrection of Hendrix.

Amy....oh how she drives me mad too! She is such high maintenance, everything is me me me. The world has to revolve around her and her needs. And don't even get me started on the clothes! Whoever wears clothes like that for everyday? She looks like she's dressed for the Oscar ceremonies just around the house. ?‍♀️

DD and I used to watch it religiously in the 1980s, and then when we went to Australia to live (1989-91) we were in seventh heaven. But they were 6 months ahead of the UK, so we had to fill in the missing storyline for ourselves. DD delighted in writing to her school friends back here to tell them what was going to happen next!

Have hardly watched it since, but will definitely watch the final episode this week.

I've only just twigged that Neighbours is coming to an end. sad Haven't watched it for years and years, but at one time in my life, like others here have posted the launch of that coincided with a new life, having recently given up work and a new baby, I found myself sitting down and tuning into that in the middle of the day when it coincided with feeds. I remember it very fondly, I'd been in Australia for a while a few years before it was launched and I think at the time Australia's profile had come to the fore for many igniting an interest in a fantastic continent that for some years was perceived maybe as a backwater, almost the last frontier to become a must go to destination, New Zealand following hotly behind. Trite as they were, I still think some of those Australian soaps were responsible for igniting an interest and a desire to go there, personally I love a lot of the Australian vernacular and their sense of humour,. I might just tune into that last episode.

Yes, yes, yes. And Hendrix gets out that swimming pool , he didn’t die, Mackensie was dreaming. And Amy gets treatment for whatever it is that causes her to constantly jerk and twitch.

Hendrix - That thought had crossed my mind, too Anniebach. I would love that.

Amy gets on my nerves.

Anniebach Sun 24-Jul-22 10:00:55

I was thinking of Bobby Ewing in Dallas

Chestnut Sun 24-Jul-22 09:53:21

The dream sequence has been used before. The Crossroads revival (2001-2003) ended like that.
The storyline of the final episode was the revelation that the revived series and glamorous hotel had been a dream of supermarket worker Angela
The whole series had been a dream! It was a dreadful idea and the whole revival was awful.

I too loved 500 words. I saw ‘George’ in a film recently looking a little older. I also enjoyed ‘A Place Called Home’.

And what about Paul and Therese?

I predict they will come back together in the final episode, kiss passionately and then gaze deeply into each other's eyes. In the background stands Glen watching. He knows now he will never be more than second best.

Oh Yes Please!!!!!

Thanks Oldbat1. I'll have a look.

It should be 800 words

Chestnut Sun 24-Jul-22 00:02:54

Two more Aussie series are 'The Heights' and 'Five Bedrooms' both on BBC quite recently so might still be on iPlayer.

Totally on the other end of the spectrum, but my absolute Aussie addiction is Wentworth - a gritty (but soapy) remake of Prisoner Cell Block H!

I'm going to miss it very much too Treebee.
I have volumes 22 and 23 of The Sullivans, another Melbourne family soap, lined up to take over. That will keep me going for a year.

Another Australian series I’ve enjoyed is “A place to call Home” and also enjoyed New Zealand program “500 words” and “Brokenwood Mysteries”.

nadateturbe think I got it ! Malcolm marries Izzy, they have a daughter Polly, Carl will be father to Holly and grandfather to
her sister Polly, Susan will be grandmother to Polly but no relationship to Holly . Libby will be half sister to Holly and aunt to Polly , yes ?

So complicated. No wonder Susan is stressed.

Is Susan stepgran to Holly?
Holly will be step-aunt to Polly and also half-sister? Non?
I think nerdle is easier. ?

Chestnut Sat 23-Jul-22 15:04:44

I agree Franbern about Paul and I'm a big fan too! His character is like Jekyll and Hyde, always interesting. He does the most awful things for all the right reasons, can be utterly heartless. But then when he's been hurt you get the sad, puppy dog eyes and feel sorry for him! ?

Chestnut Sat 23-Jul-22 14:59:56

I'm an Aussie soap fan as both Neighbours and Home and Away are such fluffy nonsense they lighten the day. I watch them while eating lunch and dinner unless out or have visitors. I would never watch the awful UK soaps which are depressing and negative. I want my soaps to have plenty of frothy bubbles!

I would love them to rake out some really old episodes and have Classic Neighbours instead!

dragonfly46 Sat 23-Jul-22 13:47:39

Annie grin
I shall really miss it.
