Perhaps you have to be there but the London Olympics opening ceremony it is not. Stella and the Dreamers? Dear oh dear. Quite liked the Union flag made of locally-made cars.

I've enjoyed this opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, great welcoming from Birmingham.

I look forward to the next 11 days.

We can hear it from our living room!

???

Winds in right direction can hear Duran in the garden.

Isn't it!

DD is happy - Duran Duran!

'We're all made of stardust'

Ah, that's nice!

Camilla’s looking good.

Yes, she is.

Who's her stylist - is he/she for hire?

merlotgran Thu 28-Jul-22 22:16:27

Camilla’s looking good.

An appropriately friendly host venue for the Friendly Games

Maw thank you for saying what an amazing place Birmingham is not usually recognised.

MawtheMerrier

Meant to add there is alway something “cosier”, more intimate and informal about the Commonwealth Games which I like.
Wonderful for Birmingham which is too often underestimated , but outstanding for music (CBSO), ballet (BRB) theatre (the Rep) sport (Edgbaston) culture in general (Symphony Hall and the Library) is a pretty amazing place.

Yes it is.

We're enjoying it, although we are missing bits (multitasking)

Looking at all the uniforms - India very elegant, we like the Scottish one.

Now we have the English team walking in to Queen - what more could you want!

I'm enjoying it. It's been a pain the last few years with all the road works Perry Barr but lovely see it come together, and to see red arrows amazing just wait to hear Duran Duran.

DH was at university in Birmingham so it has always been special to us. We have lots of friends in the area and love to visit.

Allsorts Thu 28-Jul-22 21:33:27

Been brilliant so far.

Kate1949 Thu 28-Jul-22 21:20:50

Well yes but not in everyone's eyes. For the Olympics there were several new stadiums (stadia?) built. We have good old Alexander Stadium, Perry Barr. I think they have built a new swimming venue in Sandwell and that's it. I am proud.

It’s getting into its stride now. I’m a big fan of Birmingham - all this talk of the Games putting it ‘on the map’ is perhaps a bit insulting? It’s always been on the map, hasn’t it?

Riverwalk Thu 28-Jul-22 21:14:33

Hope our teams aren't in boring blazers!

Kate1949 Thu 28-Jul-22 21:13:35

It's been chaos around the stadium for a few weeks.

Kate1949 Thu 28-Jul-22 21:12:32

grin maybe!

V3ra Thu 28-Jul-22 21:12:31

My Police officer son is on duty outside the stadium and was looking after all the people arriving.

I'm watching at home and enjoying the spectacle ?

Riverwalk Thu 28-Jul-22 21:10:46

Maw shouting?

Kate1949 Thu 28-Jul-22 21:09:06

It is Maw.

Millie22 Thu 28-Jul-22 21:08:55

There's a woman shouting a lot.

Not sure why ?

Riverwalk Thu 28-Jul-22 21:08:48

Cameroon, very colourful!
