This is a lovely film, currently on Talking Pictures. It follows 7 year old Gus through a summer in the early 1960s when his nephew, also 7, comes to stay and Gus is taunted by the other children in his neighbourhood about being an uncle at his age. It’s beautifully acted and filmed. A real nostalgia fest for those of us who were children in the 50s/60s.

I started watching it, but gave up after about half an hour. The party was driving me mad with all the smoking that was going on, even when eating. I was worried that boys were going to be burned as they walked through the room and the nephew got on my nerves when he was running around the table.

I thought the acting was terrific though. The children were very natural. I think it was the adult actors that I didn't enjoy grin
