I'm rather enjoying it.Not the most riveting police drama but good solid acting and an easy Sunday watch.Plus could listen to ADs voice anytime. As a northerner Bronagh Waughs accent is also pretty good for someone with a strong Ukstee accent herself.
I didn't mind the first two episodes, a bit of light entertainment. Last night's episode however was weak and full of very obvious procedural errors. I find it hard to accept Adrian Dunbar in this role perhaps because of Line of Duty. It's odd though because I enjoy Father Brown & Grantchester which are both as implausible.
Ridley was watchable last night although rather slow moving. Capture we didn’t bother with it had become very slow moving and not credible, very much in the vein of Vigil, which also became tedious.
I'm always pointing out implausibilities to the annoyance of H but it's entertainment. Midsomer Murders or Father Brown genre, not to be taken seriously (but not as good as either).
Just caught up with last night's episode - weak implausible storyline, full of police procedure holes even for an authorised cop, let alone someone who's just "a consultant". Perhaps I'm expecting too much. I don't rate the female detective either, not sure why, but nothing seems to gel.
And the singing .... well.
Overall disappointing in my view.
Hi Sparklefizz. As a teacher, I've never watched a school drama that wasn't riddled with implausibities (is that a word?)
I think this series is a bit too obviously contrived. Even the jazz singing is a bit 'stick on to add character'. Doubt I'll watch it again. 4/10. Could do better.

The mysterious prisoner is to do with the arson attack on his family, (have seen something about it on my TV guide). A baddie with a grudge against Ridley I think, but don’t quote me!
Surely when they viewed the body in the first place they should have worn protective clothing to preserve evidence, at least I don’t think they wore any.
I have been reading several DI Grace books and they always seem to be putting on their overalls etc.
I know it’s early days, but the characters don’t seem to ‘gell’ very well.
We're enjoying it, easy Sunday evening viewing. It was this or Capture on BBC. We started to watch Capture but found it confusing. The thing about Ridley is:
Ridley seems to have considerable freedom to blunder into crime scenes and interview suspects without any oversight.
Very strange and pretty implausible. We do quite like the singing.
I have up on The Suspect so am watching this instead. I agree with Calender Girl, much of it is implausible, Ridley seems to have considerable freedom to blunder into crime scenes and interview suspects without any oversight. Vera it is not!!! The scene with his dead family in the kitchen and buying a boat to renovate was an unnecessary addition to an already confusing plot. Who is the mysterious prisoner that he visits that appears to be a counselling session. We don't need the singing at the end of each episode and the smouldering looks that pass between him.and his bar partner. It's all a bit weird but I will watch it as there is nothing else on!!
