A new series of (Bob) Mortimer and (Paul) Whitehouse Gone Fishing - 21.00, BBC2, Friday 9th Sept.
I’m in no way a fishing fan and neither BM nor PW have ever been favourites of mine, but I love this programme. Each week it’s a different UK river, so lots of beautiful scenery. They also eat, book into a different type of accommodation and often meet somebody local.
The two of them had been friends for many years, and it originally began after BM had triple bypass surgery and PW who had also had heart problems, wanted to encourage him to start living a “normal” life again. PW has fished since childhood, BM was more or less a beginner in the first series which has led to some very funny moments. The chat between the two of them is always entertaining, and sometimes very poignant.

I enjoyed previous episodes and watched a lot of them on iPlayer.
A lovely, calming and often funny programme to watch with lovely scenery.

Thank you for the heads-up grannydarkhair

I like it too - but not as much as I used to like Robson Green’s Extreme Fishing!

DH loved this programme. As a dedicated fly fisherman, he always said PW was a proper, skilled fly caster - apparently he can Spey cast, which is something of an art, whereas BM just a learner. DH liked to see the rivers where he fished - especially his beloved Tweed and rivers he’d liked to have fished, like The Test. After DH died last year, I was surprised to find how emotional I was watching a couple of episodes, so I won’t be watching again. It’s a lovely, gentle programme with true friendship between Paul and Bob.

I love this programme and especially Ted.

We saw them live earlier in the year and it was just like a funny unscripted conversation. Bob nearly set fire to the stage while showing us how to make a "heart healthy" meal.

Thank you for that great news. I absolutely love this series so I can’t wait for next Friday. I know nothing about fishing but I so much enjoy watching their camaraderie, the scenery is beautiful and I have the soundtrack to the whole series on my Spotify favourites. You’ve made my day!

Oh what good news! As a passionate fly angler myself, I have loved this series from the beginning and what a pleasure it is to see PW doing his stuff, and Bob is now no slouch with a fishing rod either. But even if you have no interest in fishing whatsoever (as was the case with my DH!) it’s just a sheer joy to watch the interplay between these two. Can’t wait!
