Your best film ever?

An ad has just flashed up on my phone offering a Private Screening at my local Cineworld Cinema for up to 100 people of my choosing for £120. So a bit like a birthday bowling/ trampolining/ soft play party for a child - but for grown ups.
So it got me thinking - I don’t actually have 100 friends sad so it might be fewer, but what film would I choose ?
While I am thinking - what film was your BEST EVER which you would like to share on a special occasion?
(Presumably the popcorn ? is included )

Vito

Good as it gets , wonderful film.
Three billboards, faultless .

Frances Mcdormand is brilliant in everything she does (imho)

Trendy film choice don't think so.

Is that aimed at my choice? I've never turned down re-watching that film and it was a family favourite in my
household. Older films already quoted send me to sleep

I think as my guests would cover three generations I would choose Mary Poppins.

Difficult. I have a few first equals but I think 'Paint your wagon' would have the most appeal for 120 people.

I would have an old fashioned double- bill of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Lion.

I like war films. The Diar of Anne Frank. Where Eagles Dare. The Heroes of Telemark. The Longest Day and The Battle of the Buldge. But I live Home Alone and Big.. I think The 3 Godfathers is probably my all time favourite though and The Searchers second..

Do you rate the three Godfather films equally? We have recently re watched them and I think nothing can beat the first one. Not saying I don't enjoy the other two, just not quite up to the standard of the first.

My best film has to be Ben Hur. I first saw it when I was fifteen and I have seen it lots of times since. The one I watch is the Charlton Heston film, the newer one is not very good .

I love Dances With Wolves but three hours is a bit long for a private viewing.

They’d all be nodding off ?

I love brief encounter too, didn’t know it was trendy!

Oh, The Elephant Man.

Never has one film made me cry so much.

I was in love with John Hurt from the day I watched that film (without knowing what he looked like).

I loved 'Slumdog Millionaire', great film.

Also 'Lion', a true story, very moving. The only film I've been to where the audience spontaneously clapped when it ended... most people with tears in their eyes.

Both starring Dev Patel. Love him.

Showing my age - Brief Encounter - just has to be my all time favourite.

NotSpaghetti Mon 05-Sept-22 13:31:36

Several favourite films already mentioned.

I loved Vacas though. Maybe it would have to be that. Not without its faults but still a truly great film.

War of the Buttons?

AreWeThereYet

The Mission. For the music, the scenery, an actual story, Robert de Niro, Jeremy Irons, and a very young Liam Neeson. But an ending to make you weep.

Strangely I've never met anyone else who has seen it.

I've seen it and found it very moving the music is beautiful.

Interview with a vampire with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt

The wizard of Oz

It amuses me sometimes when the trendies say they love brief encounter

I didn’t realise I was a ‘trendie’.

I love the film, have done for most of my adult life.

I don’t say I like something because it’s ‘trendy’ to say so.

I’m not that shallow.

"A river runs through it". with a gorgeous young Brad Pitt.
Before that definitely "Casablanca", they both make sniff.

Dr Zhivago for the story, scenery and music and Omar Sharif.
