Your best film ever?

An ad has just flashed up on my phone offering a Private Screening at my local Cineworld Cinema for up to 100 people of my choosing for £120. So a bit like a birthday bowling/ trampolining/ soft play party for a child - but for grown ups.
So it got me thinking - I don’t actually have 100 friends sad so it might be fewer, but what film would I choose ?
While I am thinking - what film was your BEST EVER which you would like to share on a special occasion?
(Presumably the popcorn ? is included )

My friend and I went to see Dr Zhivago and we had a big surprise as we thought it was a James Bond film, like Dr No!! We enjoyed it but what a shock.

Just thought of 2 more:
Zulu
The Italian Job (both films) I love Minis!! ?

I enjoyed Dr. Zhivago, but it’s not one of my favourites. Omar Sharif was gorgeous though!
My favourites would be:
All the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes films
The Titfield Thunderbolt
Ladykillers
Ben Hur
All the Pink Panther films
All the Sean Connery Bond films!
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
Labyrinth
Ghostbusters
The Rock
Forrest Gump
Meet the Parents
The River Wild

Dr Zhivago here too ! Saw the very first public screening in London whilst I was working in Lincolns' Inn and living in a little bedsit !! Took my self off and got in ...beautiful film, but what made it so memorable was I was sat next to a middle aged man (never spoke to him) but he was muttering in Russian and actually CRYING from the beginning when the twig taps on the window of the little boy's bedroom ..........it seemed to remind him of his childhood .......I wonder what happened to that man ? Gave me a lifelong ambition to visit Russia ........never had the chance until 2019 having come back from living in Europe for 25 years, after my husband died ...BUT as I had not lived in the UK for six months I could not get insurance ........then I booked for 2020 ....which was cancelled for COVID reasons cross border .....then of course after that any trip to Russia was out of the question and now it looks as if I will never get there ! but I have seen a lot on travel programmes and that will have to suffice !

I don't normally like fantasy fiction but really enjoyed the Golden Compass. I loved the Armoured Bear, Loryk Byrnison (sp)

Thinking about a film that would appeal to a range of ages…The Peanut Butter Falcon.

Shadowlands
Love story
The champ

I just can’t decide between them

I love Cabaret and another film that takes place in Germany which is in German but comes with English subtitles, The Lives of Others. It has a very memorable final line which has two meanings.

Oh I forgot Pan’s Labyrinth, excellent film, always makes me cry, I think it’s the only one that can

tickingbird Wed 07-Sept-22 18:21:37

The Godfather
Dangerous Liaisons
Atonement
Thelma and Louise

I could say more but I’d say they’re my faves but I know I’ll think of others!

Deliverance is my all time favourite, Duelling Banjos gives me the chills but for a family film it would be The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Jean de Florette and the sequel Manon des Souces, both explore the extremes of human nature.
For pure fun and great music American Graffiti. A young Ron Howard, Harrison Ford and Richard Dreyfuss.

My favourite film is Duel, l watched it by myself donkeys years ago when my husband was away on business. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and the ending was so satisfying. Best film ever !

The Godfather. There began my love affair with Al Pacino. And funny enough on holiday in Sicily about 15 years ago, we found a Godfather coach tour to all the places they filmed! There was a video player which played the relevant scenes- what fun.

I love "Don't Breath", a thriller, "Girl On The Train" and "West Side Story", and "Dear Evan Hanson". Hate "Mama Mia", one of the most annoying musicals ever made.

So difficult to pick just one. What springs to mind is 3 Billboards outside Ebbing and Manchester by the Sea. But I shall think of lots more.

I loved both of those !

The Way We Were or Dr Zhivago
I've watched both dozens of times

Brendauk Wed 07-Sept-22 17:20:00

I saw it! It was amazing. Especially the beginning, with the powerful soundtrack.

Fleurpepper Wed 07-Sept-22 17:19:40

Just can't pick one. I <3 so many of them, for very different reasons.

Froglady Wed 07-Sept-22 17:18:57

I love the film Seven Pounds with Will Smith; it's the only film that I have watched twice in one day. A story of regret and redemption.

seadragon Wed 07-Sept-22 17:17:17

and then there was 'Zulu' too... Michael Caine again... Perhaps he is my 'type' after all...

Froglady Wed 07-Sept-22 17:16:31

The Mission. For the music, the scenery, an actual story, Robert de Niro, Jeremy Irons, and a very young Liam Neeson. But an ending to make you weep.

Strangely I've never met anyone else who has seen it.

Same here, thought the ending was so sad.

Quadrophenia. It takes me back to my Mod days in the 80s, all the scooters and parkas. I love all the music, have it on LP, CD and DVD. I saw The Who on their Quadrophenia tour, best concert ever. I still watch the film now forty odd years on, love it.
