An ad has just flashed up on my phone offering a Private Screening at my local Cineworld Cinema for up to 100 people of my choosing for £120. So a bit like a birthday bowling/ trampolining/ soft play party for a child - but for grown ups.
So it got me thinking - I don’t actually have 100 friends sad so it might be fewer, but what film would I choose ?
While I am thinking - what film was your BEST EVER which you would like to share on a special occasion?
(Presumably the popcorn ? is included )

You brought The Italian Job to mind!

To Sir With Love. Sidney Poitier he was wonderful!

I love mainly British films, I go to laugh and be entertained, not into gratuitous violence or bad language.
Do love a good heist though - one where you find yourself on the side of the baddies😁

Michael Mann film Heat is a favourite of mine. It's got everything. An epic crime film with ensemble characters, dialogues that is literature, and L.A. itself as a character. And importantly, a plethora of style. Apocalypse Now and Raging Bull are what come to my mind along with this. Those are really great movies!

The Godfather, Leon, Pretty Woman, an Officer and a Gentleman
That's the ones I would like to see again

For gorgeous men, Brad Pitt in Thelma and Louise takes a lot of beating.

A really good film is 13 Lives about the cave rescue of the boys in Thailand. It's on Amazon and is all the more fascinating because it's a true story. Well worth a watch!

I really want to watch that but don’t have Amazon. Maybe I can watch it at my sons house.

My deepest sympathies to you all on the passing of the Queen. Definitely is the end of an era. She was an amazing woman!

On the subject of movies… are you confused now? So many. Whatever you pick will be great. Make it epic (long and worth your money), keep it light and uplifting, good music helps, and if kids are involved there are good options there too. Seasonal? Like around Christmas… some of the best movies to pick from. Good luck!
Cheers!

For a mixed audience, ET. Best film ever. No contest!
The Holiday is great.
Saw Help (Beatles film) 12 times as a teenager but not sure it will have stood the test of time.

DEBSF1 - I remember Pharlap and loved it. One of my daughters was very keen on horses and for one of her parties ( she was ten ) she asked to watch Pharlap with her horsy friends. They all loved it all and cried. I wish I could find a copy of it somewhere.

I’ve got it on video somewhere ( I used to video everything back then). Not sure if it’s an Australian or New Zealand made film but they both make wonderful films. I don’t think they ever found out what actually poisoned him. His lad become a very successful and beloved trainer in Australia. I don’t know if I could bear to watch it again but it’s a beautiful film.

AreWeThereYet, yes, I absolutely loved The Mission: Music was awesome, inspiring and very moving. It encapsulated the entire film, which in itself was fantastic as were the actors. The story was thought provoking, making me angry and frustrated. And, yes I cried at the end.

Philomena with Judi Dench….such a heartbreaking story. Have watched it several times. Some very amusing bits in it too. So well acted.

I’m with you there NanKate. I think it was one of the first truly scary films I watched, I was about 12 I think so yep, it frightened me to death at the time but even to this day Duelling Banjos is one of my favourite pieces of music it had such an impact on me. I find it difficult to find a modern film that can do that.

NotSpaghetti Thu 08-Sept-22 00:31:55

I like Straw Dogs. Desperately scary and unsettling. I think I'm in a minority on this one - though I do think the rape scene is disturbing (and just plain wrong) for the way it's portrayed.
