Last week's postponed Strictly is on tonight at 7pm. Apparently Rose & Giovanni will be reprising their winning routine.

Joseanne

I have covid brain at the moment, so can someone help me out ....
In the early days didn't we have a week where every contestant did say the Charleston, then the following week everyone did say the waltz?
It kind of made it easier to sift through those who had the skills and those who didn't, though I guess the mish mash makes it more interesting?

Yes, it is a mish mash and I'm not keen on the new format.

Ritchie and Giovanni had poor costumes
I was out of the room and missed their dance, came in at the end and wondered what they were meant to be? The costumes were very odd, not easy to dance in I'd imagine.

I do love to watch the Charleston. Unfortunately I think there may well be a queue this evening for the exit. I do think Tony is trying very hard. I do not think he has danced before and he cannot move as he did in his football days. I thought the judges to be particularly mean re comments and marks for him.

I love to watch Will Mellor. I also agree the show is on for far too long, there are too many contestants. I would prefer fewer and the result the same evening.

Yes, since it's all filmed at the same time.

But why make one programme when you can stretch it to two or more? ?

GrannyGravy13 Sun 09-Oct-22 12:41:51

It’s definitely a mixed bunch this year, no standout winner emerging for me as of yet.

My only comment regarding the scheduling of the results show is that we all know it happens one hour after the main show on Saturday, the pretence that it is a new day is just plain silly in my opinion.

(It’s easy to find out who is in the bottom two and the dancer that leaves a quick look on Twitter reveals all, no doubt it is available on other sites late Saturday evening)

Mollygo Sun 09-Oct-22 12:46:21

Yes GrannyGravy13. How easy to just say that the results will be shown tomorrow, without the pretence that no one knows till then.

Grannynannywanny Sun 09-Oct-22 12:47:21

I don’t mind it being on over 2 evenings. But it irritates me on Sunday evening when they refer to “last night” or Saturday when we all know they’ve recorded the results show on Saturday directly after the main show. Why pretend they’re referring to performances from 24hrs ago when it was actually just an hour or so earlier.

I find they are very careful to say "Saturday night" and not "last night". So technically they are not pretending! It doesn't bother me, it's just how it is.

I'm doing this link twice but this interview with Jayde explains and highlights where her interest in dance comes from and why she is so passionate and emotional about it.

www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2022/sep/26/im-going-to-smash-strictly-jayde-adams-on-love-death-fat-shaming-and-disco-dancing

By reading the article, I can understand fully why she is emotional and in particular, doing 'flashdance'. with Karen. Memories of her dancing with her sister must have just flooded back. No wonder, she asked to dance with a female on Strictly.

The article may enlighten those posters who can't resist a spiteful, insulting or nasty comment about her.

We were watching WWTBAM and the klaxon went to signal the end of the programme.
The contestant said "Is this where I go and get changed?" ?

Sara1954 Sun 09-Oct-22 14:24:35

Well I watched with my granddaughter, we were laughing our heads off at Tony, but not in a nasty way, we loved it.
Jayde was great fun, she has bags of personality, obviously not the best dancer, but very entertaining.
We both really don’t like Matt, he seems to have absolutely no personality at all. and although I loved Richie last week, didn’t like this weeks dance.
Think there is probably a winner in Tyler, who is amazing, and also Will
My problem is, as the dancers are eliminated, and they have more time, they start on all the sentimental stuff, and I can’t stand all that.

volver Sun 09-Oct-22 14:28:47

I thought Matt was a bit standoffish at first, now I wonder if he is just nervous and anxious. I felt a bit sorry for him last night.

Sara1954 Sun 09-Oct-22 14:32:22

Volver
Yes that could be it, he seems extremely ill at ease, I’m uncomfortable just watching him.

Joseanne Sun 09-Oct-22 14:47:37

The only time Matt looked happy was at the controls of the fighter jet in the museum!
I thought he tried harder this week, but he definitely looks nervous and unsure.
He is in my bottom two though I'm still struggling with who else? There's several just making up the numbers at the moment, maybe Hamran because I didn't think he did much.

Jeez what has happened to the Strictly thread this year?

It just got spiteful, criticising people for their size and saying they look alful. I watch it for entertainment and the dancing.

Joseanne Sun 09-Oct-22 17:25:09

That's in the past. It's all back on track now. ? ?

Sparklefizz Sun 09-Oct-22 19:32:42

shock shock shock Fleur in the dance off. Who else?

Sweetpeasue Sun 09-Oct-22 19:35:16

Shocking! ?

merlotgran Sun 09-Oct-22 19:41:13

Claudia looks weirdly tiny sat between Jayde and Helen Skelton’s ball gown.

volver Sun 09-Oct-22 19:42:51

Adam Lambert singing, and Nikita and Carlos doing the AT. Phew. I'm going to have to go and sit in the fridge for a while,

Sparklefizz Sun 09-Oct-22 19:47:13

My mouth just dropped open!!!!

merlotgran Sun 09-Oct-22 19:48:33

I think it’s the first time I’ve heard ‘Mad About The Boy’ sung by a man about a man - as Noel Coward intended.

Calendargirl Sun 09-Oct-22 19:48:52

Well, I hope Fleur gets through.

Sparklefizz Sun 09-Oct-22 19:48:53

Richie & Giovanni don't deserve to be in the dance off - blame those wretched costumes. Can't believe the voting!

But loved Adam Lambert and Nikita & Carlos - also the opening number by the professionals to Elvis songs. Fantastic.

Wasn't it terrific?

Sparklefizz Sun 09-Oct-22 20:00:33

Well - In my opinion Richie is a much better dancer than he appeared in that routine, but it's the correct choice for Fleur to go through. Neither of them should have been in the dance off. I notice Shirley still couldn't bring herself to choose Fleur though.
