Last week's postponed Strictly is on tonight at 7pm. Apparently Rose & Giovanni will be reprising their winning routine.

Sparklefizz
volver Its Saturday Night Entertainment with a bit of dancing thrown in.
No. It's a dancing competition which is the whole point.
No, I don't think it is a dancing competition Sparklefizz. Come Dancing and The Greatest Dancer are/were dancing competitions. Strictly is a show where judges knowledgeable in the rules of ballroom/Latin give points for how well the couples would do in a competition, and then the public vote for who they want to see dance again. Someone's dance may be technically and artistically of a much lower standard than the others, but the public still vote for them. (Tony Adams anyone? Ed Balls?)
"Dancing Competitions" don't get the audiences. Strictly does. If we don't like it, we don't have to watch it. And we shouldn't complain that its not the program we want it to be, when actually it's another program entirely.

We got taken in by that one for a while, didn’t we.
As an aside, you have to have a sob story to get on Repair Shop.
That’s a fact, not my assumption ( just incase someone thinks differently) ?

The Repair Shop, repairs/restores cherished items.
Different show all together, I find the back stories to the items interesting.
Strictly is a dance competition with set dances following strict rules, taught by professionals and judged by competition standards. The contestants are apparently paid in the region of £25,000 which lifts it out of the amateur class, and although classed as light entertainment it doesn't mean it should not be taken seriously.
Dance is the art which conceals art, and the amazing thing about Strictly performers is how many of them learn and improve so quickly and deliver astonishing performances. It does matter where you place your arm and leg, and head and shoulders and hips; it is not an invitation to come on the dance floor and do your own thing. Emotion can inform technique, not replace it, and dripping tears following a poor performance for sympathy votes is tawdry.

..and then voted on by people who like to see a cheery Charleston rather than a perfect foxtrot.

Maybe it’s people with a happy disposition who like to watch a cheery Charleston

As you can tell, I still haven't recovered!

Apparently on her radio show today Fleur revealed that 3 of the contestants had been very ill - Hamza, Will and Kym. Fleur's own dancing partner Vito was really sick and hadn't moved from bed for 2 days. They only got six hours rehearsing together. If they can pull it out from under that pressure then I am impressed.
Note: Fleur said they did not want to make a big thing of it on Saturday and so said nothing.

Well done Fleur and Vito on all fronts! No trying for the sympathy vote, just getting on with it and producing fabulous results.
I for one am glad that Matt has gone - he was not very good, to say the least, plus he was at the bottom of the leader board for at least 2 weeks.
He might not have mentioned his sister but he did mention the previous week his grandparents being in the war and that his dance was to honour their memories (paraphrasing this last bit).
Great show so far tonight- loving it.
I'm enjoying Strictly's 100 years of BBC tonight, dancing to TV theme tunes.
I'm impressed by Hamza's progress, 35!He's very light on his feet, his hair must weigh a lot!
We used to watch his Let's go for a Walk programme on CBeebies with DGS2.
Jayde is not an outstanding dancer, even if the Head Judge says she is.
Loving Hamza- like many larger people (but not all) he is incredibly light on his feet.
The routine to Grandstand tune was terrible. Imo not dancing!
Hamza’s my favourite, you can tell he loves it, and his sense of rhythm is brilliant.
Nancy and Will were amazing, very atmospheric and brooding. Obvious chemistry, they work well together.
Kym’s dress was so reminiscent of Come Dancing, but it looked like the left bosom needed hoisting up somehow. I thought the judges, apart from Clive, were rather harsh with her.

Clive? Craig?
Some strange comments this evening and marking - Helen deserved higher marks I thought, Shirley gave Fleur a 9 when her Jive was not as good as I expected, and Shirley said Jayde was an "outstanding dancer" and "one of the best" despite there not being much swivel to speak of in her Charleston.
I agree with you Sweetpeasue re Tony's routine.
I didn't enjoy the Couples Choice by Mollie to the Grange Hill tune.
I liked Kim's Quickstep mainly because I remember watching "Come Dancing" when I was a child with my Mum.
Hamza was really good in this quickstep. Beautiful. Loved Fleur 's Jive. I thought Dianne and Tyler's Tango was memorising. Loved Nancy and Will too but the music was awful for a Viennese Waltz--a monotonous repetition of mainly 4 notes.
A good show and brilliant dancing. Not keen on Molly and Carlos own couples choice routine.
I thought it was an awful show. The music choices were strange, forced and off putting and inconsistent. There were some theme tunes and some songs. Come Dancing had an actual theme tune, not what was played. I liked Helen's Charleston, Tyler's tango and Hamza's quickstep. Jayde was stecky and Molly stompy. The couples choice dance is often poor. Tony was by far the worst. I hope that's the last theme night although I doubt it.
It won't be the last theme night as next week will be the Halloween Night.
