Last week's postponed Strictly is on tonight at 7pm. Apparently Rose & Giovanni will be reprising their winning routine.

I loved the look of total surprise on James`s face when it was announced that he was through!

Sara1954 Sun 16-Oct-22 22:17:13

Yes, I too agree about the endless sob stories, when they are considered for the show, do they do a background check to see what they can dig up and use?
Sorry, I know it sounds bitchy, and of course they are terribly sad, but what has it got to do with dancing?

Washerwoman Sun 16-Oct-22 22:11:42

Apparently Matt Goss also lost his sister tragically-killed by a drunk driver when she was 18.Knowing that makes Jayde seem even more self indulgent.I felt really sorry for him tonight. He looks a bit lost. And spoke very genuinely.

I read the short article in the Telegraph several times, as I felt it so unlikely they would publish a Spoiler.
I think it was an editorial error.
The writer was intending to say that Nikita and his partner “kicked off” Saturday’s programme with the first dance, ie started the proceedings.
Take out the “were” and it makes more sense.

Charleygirl5 Sun 16-Oct-22 21:28:16

I totally agree re the sob stories- I had had enough by yesterday evening. Heaven knows what Jayde will do if and when she finds herself in the dance-off. I will be making myself a cup of coffee then.
There should be fewer couples and everything danced on the same night as it used to be.

Are the couples told the result beforehand does anybody know?

Sweetpeasue Sun 16-Oct-22 20:24:20

Oh dear I felt for him too, although it was the right choice.

annodomini Sun 16-Oct-22 20:23:35

I don't like the couples' choice dances. They are taking us right out of the realm of ballroom dancing into 'modern dancing' whatever that may be. In fact, I think the whole show has strayed well away from the original scheme (or what I seem to remember it was) of ballroom and Latin dancing.

Sparklefizz Sun 16-Oct-22 20:03:17

No contest, but I was surprised Kim was in the bottom 2.

Ah, bless him. ?

Calendargirl Sun 16-Oct-22 11:04:44

I’m another who has no desire to see tears and hear sob stories.

It all smacks of trying to get a sympathy vote.

I disliked Tyler’s dance, didn’t like the crotch grabbing, but there again, I think the whole idea of the ‘Couples’s Choice’ is awful. An excuse to hear about hardships in the past. Would prefer to see a ‘proper’ dance.

Do they still do the foxtrot? Doesn’t seem very popular nowadays.

At least the ‘Lindy Hop’ seems to have been shelved.

Millie22 Sun 16-Oct-22 10:31:37

Far too much personal stuff last night. I had to mute Jayde as it felt awkward and nothing to do with dancing.

Finally Shirley had something good to say about Fleur. I also thought Helen did really well and what Gorka said was lovely.

lixy Sun 16-Oct-22 09:56:12

Have to agree that all the 'background' stories last night were a bit strange. We watch Strictly for light relief and don't really want to be getting the tissues out.

Loved Fleur's Argentine Tango, Tyler's couple's choice and Hamza's joyous dancing.

I don't know the results yet - will wait until this evening.

eazybee Sun 16-Oct-22 09:53:49

The announcement of of the couple 'kicked off' last night was tacked on to the end of a paragraph about another contestant who is finding Strictly 'a whole new challenge' (surprise!); no reason given. Column inches?

Forsythia Sun 16-Oct-22 09:41:12

I thought the sob stories were too much. If you haven’t got a sob story then are you penalised? I find Jayde too much every week with a sob story. Surely the dancing should be all that matters.

Grannynannywanny Sun 16-Oct-22 09:34:41

Every dancer seemed to have made a marked improvement since last week. But they’ve gone into overdrive with the emotional back stories.

I enjoyed all the dances but my favourite was Fleur’s tango. My least favourite was Tyler’s. The crotch tugging made him look like he’d forgotten to go to the loo before dancing or his costume was too tight!

The Telegraph has published the names of the contestants who were voted off last night. I am shocked, both by the breaking of the sacred code and by the loss of this couple.

Plus these blasted adverts.

There are many ways to find out who is eliminated, not sure that The Telegraph has done itself any favours by publishing them though.

Did the article say why they had published? If it’s an attempt to have the results show shown live on Saturday evening instead of Sunday I’d support that?

The result is all over main stream Twitter, no need to go onto a spoiler account today.

The majority appear not to agree with the bottom two or the result.

Jaffacake2 Sun 16-Oct-22 09:26:32

Only just read about Matt having Poland syndrome which causes underdeveloped muscles on one side of the body. His chest muscles are affected causing problems with his posture. He has said that the costume department has adapted clothing to help support and hide condition. Thought his posture was unbalanced.
Do you think the judges are taking this into consideration in their criticisms ?

Grandmabatty Sun 16-Oct-22 09:21:44

I loved Fleur's Argentine Tango. It was my favourite dance last night. I thought there was distinct improvement from most. Even Tony upped his performance. I wasn't keen on Tyler's couples choice dance. It's not my thing.

I do agree the programme was packed with sympathy stories last night, even the Helen and Gorka bit, though to be fair she didn't utter a word.
The best bit of normal happy chat was James and his adorable three young boys.

Clawdy Sun 16-Oct-22 08:24:11

I thought Will was coughing quite deliberately while waiting for the scores, to get sympathy! Obviously poorly though. And Jayde was certainly hoping for the sympathy vote. Dreadful that she lost her sister, but she was almost exploiting her grief. Shirley saying her dance was for everyone who'd lost a loved one. Guess that's all of us then!

^I really felt for Helen after the news about her ex this week. She must feel so raw poor girl.^
Indeed. Gorka said all the right things though. Good on him!

Yes, he did, didn't he ?

What a rat her ex must be and his new girlfriend too; just as Helen starts to try and pick herself again they do this.
