I've read several of the Karen Pirie books. They're not among McDermid's psychological thrillers. I prefer to avoid those as I'm not keen on that kind of suspense.(wimp!) This seems to be going along quite well. The end of the first episode was a good cliffhanger. I recognised St Andrews right away, so that did help to get me 'hooked'
I assumed there would be another episode. There is another in the series (at least), as two episodes showed up when I set it to series record. I hope there is a better resolution and the next one isn't a new story.
I thought I hadn’t read the book, but as the story unfolded, I re breed I had. The beginning seemed to drag, but the end was rushed. I’m not sure it was the end. Will it be expanded on next time?
A new series adapted from books by Val McDermid starts tonight on ITV. I've read the books and enjoyed them, so am looking forward to the series.
The main character is much younger than I'd imagined - in the trailer a crime from 1996 is mentioned, and Karen says she was three - the same age as my daughter. All the same, if this is as good as Wire in the Blood was (or Touching Evil) it will be worth a watch.
