Did anyone hear her on Today Prog Radio 4 this am?

Chestnut Mon 17-Oct-22 12:30:14

I see this thread has gone silent. All her fans are now unable to justify her behaviour. That is disgraceful. I rest my case.

Chestnut Mon 17-Oct-22 10:55:48

So is her behaviour acceptable, and would it be equally acceptable if it was a man? My point is that she is getting away with it because she's a woman. Any man behaving like this would be condemned by all and sundry. That's double standards.

volver Mon 17-Oct-22 10:43:03

I can't answer because I do find her shocking. The difference is that I don't condemn her for it and don't expect her to shut up.

I realise she is playing on her character and reputation to get work, and to make us question the standards we set for what we consider to be acceptable behaviour in elderly women.

I've just finished watching all of Miriam's moments on Graham Norton, and she hasn't said anything tooo bad.

She has a very beautiful face, too, which I never realised. smile

You obviously missed the one when she said what she did in her knickers when I think it was Sir Lawrence Oliver she met. She used an expression that had to be explained by DD we were all sitting watching Sl included and it was very crude indeed nothing to do with incontinence.

Those who don't find her shocking, and who actually like her, need to say whether they would find the lewd behaviour and sexual innuendos acceptable if she were a man?

There are lots of posters who support her, so what's the answer?

Elspeth45 Mon 17-Oct-22 08:31:39

Can't stand her, find her very vulgar

Me too.
Have you ever seen his joke books?
There are amazing

The thing is, though, that a lot of people aren't shocked.

That in itself is shocking. ?

Callistemon21 Sun 16-Oct-22 19:22:56

Well, she's got everyone talking about her
Again

?

Whitewave is right.

I didn't find her a bit show offy.
She merely talks about bodily functions, and that's fine by me.

She talks about more than just body functions. As mentioned, she comments on body parts, including of people present, and tells disgusting stories about her strange sexual encounters, all the time with that smirking smile on her face as if she has no idea that anyone would be shocked.

If a man behaved like that he would be in deep trouble.

No I didn’t, but going by other peoples comments I guess as usual she’s very rude. I’ve seen her on the real marigold hotel and her own travel programme, she does have some nice ways about her but it’s a shame with her language and her farting through the show, rude.

That wouldn't have much impact on the radio.

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 17:13:23

Well, she only regaled those who are interested in her tales.

I found people on here saying what fun lady someone or other was, on "I'm a celebrity" harder to stomach than anything the tiny bit I've watched of Miriam.

LadyHonoriaDedlock Sun 16-Oct-22 17:03:46

Miriam Margolyes has been a hero of mine for decades. Good on her for speaking her mind bluntly.

Callistemon21 Sun 16-Oct-22 17:03:11

Young men.

Callistemon21 Sun 16-Oct-22 17:01:51

The kind of men that actively pursue young women?

That wouldn't apply to Miriam, as a lesbian.

Although she regales us with tales of how she used to.

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 17:01:46

Well, what do you mean?

I don't even know what I mean, really, so I can't decide what you mean. smile

Callistemon21 Sun 16-Oct-22 17:00:21

MissAdventure

You mean the ones who were mixing in circles with sex traffickers, and so on?

No
That is not what I mean

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 16:56:03

I'd say it depended on the people whose parts were commented on.

Certainly, people are keen to hear Miriam's chat, from what I've seen. ..the beautifully hung young man didn't seem to object, and he looked well over the age of consent. (In any country)

Mollygo Sun 16-Oct-22 16:52:31

MissAdventure, if the people who mixed in the circles you mention had only commented on women’s body parts on TV, it would have been less harmful certainly, but are you saying it would have been acceptable?

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 16:49:52

I can look at a young woman or man and judge them as beautiful.

It doesnt mean I'm lusting after them or trying to bed them.

maddyone Sun 16-Oct-22 16:48:44

Most people, including me, have strongly held beliefs. Most don't say things like 'people on here could learn from' whatever or whoever. It's patronising and condescending.

A big fat yes!

maddyone Sun 16-Oct-22 16:48:01

Callistemon21

So, if a man tells a woman guest on Graham Norton that she has beautiful breasts that's fine, then?

Oh good.
All those men who've been called lecherous, sex pests etc over the years must be heaving a sigh of relief.

Indeed! Quite surprising the behaviour that is judged acceptable by women if demonstrated by other women, but would be deemed totally unacceptable by those same women if the behaviour was perpetrated by men. Strange!
