Did anyone hear her on Today Prog Radio 4 this am?

tickingbird Sun 16-Oct-22 12:42:34

Volver^.
Having a strongly held opinion and expresing it, isn't thinking you're headmistress.

Trying to belittle people does make you a bully, though.

Emphasis on trying

Oh the irony. You’ve never attempted to belittle anyone have you Volver? Never posted condescending, snidey comments? I can’t believe you’re being serious…..then again…

volver Sun 16-Oct-22 12:41:35

(That's about the paintings)

volver Sun 16-Oct-22 12:41:07

errrr....?

Doodledog Sun 16-Oct-22 12:39:12

I think that often when people go from acting/newsreading or whatever to being ‘personalities’ they get it wrong. Following a script or reading an autocue is one thing, but wandering about different countries trying to be interesting requires a very different set of skills. In neither case do we get to ‘know’ the people involved but we see a different side of them.

As I said, swearing doesn’t bother me, but the showing off side is irritating. I don’t see MM as vile person - I don’t know her, so couldn’t possibly think that - but I don’t like the public persona she projects, and if I see she is in something I tend not to watch.

nanna8 Sun 16-Oct-22 12:26:37

She is very much revered here. I go against the grain in not liking her but she does well for herself I have to say. I don’t like her paintings at all but that is just my personal taste ,I realise that.

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 12:20:10

I've just been watching a some of her Graham Norton appearances.

She just said "I fart a lot, and I don't know why, but I think it brings people together". grin

She's not a legend, she's an attention-seeking old bag. Her way of getting noticed is to be as rude and obscene as possible.

She's probably looking for a part in a new film or TV series where she can show herself up by being as crude as possible She was finished with me when she made reference to her knickers quite a few years ago.

Kate1949 Sun 16-Oct-22 11:58:04

I've watched most of her documentaries and read her book because I find her interesting and intelligent. She can also be unbelievably rude and cutting.

Chestnut Sun 16-Oct-22 11:52:50

Absolutely Allsorts. It's vile behaviour which you might expect from a naughty pre-teen boy. It's a shame, it really is, because she is intelligent and a good actress. She could give an interesting interview without resorting to all that nonsense. It's a show-off persona that she adopts to get attention, like a child saying 'look at me'!

I knew she was the bunny with the silken voice. smile

Kate1949 Sun 16-Oct-22 11:50:30

I was going to ask who appointed volver as Headmistress of Gransnet.

^People on here could learn something about self awareness on here. But they won’t.^

Who appointed you as the resident expert on psychology volver? Do you actually mean that people might actually defend their own views and not capitulate to the views of others?

No. I mean that some people realise that they can jump to conclusions, or have negative thoughts. And some people can take a look at themselves and their motives and change their outlook.

Some can't.

rafichagran Sun 16-Oct-22 11:48:34

Unlike many here MM is unfiltered but never unkind. I for one think she’s a fascinating and extremely talented person. She’d be my number one choice for a dinner party guest..farts and all!

Mine too, minus the burping and farting.

volver Sun 16-Oct-22 11:48:33

Cadbury's Caramel ads. She was the bunny. ?

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 11:47:39

I've never actually watched or read anything of hers.

I ought to at least check her out.

Allsorts Sun 16-Oct-22 11:45:58

I find her vulgar and rude. Her constant reference to her bodily noises, loud burps and other noises, sitting with her legs wide open, her four letter insults, all to shock others and embarrass them, so I just choose not listen or watch her being herself. The acting is good in the parts she takes on, but I wish there were someone who fitted the role more pleasant.m.. Some people like foul behaviour but I find it repellent. It’s a good job we are not all the same I suppose.

Kate1949 Sun 16-Oct-22 11:44:42

Exactly Chestnut (in my opinion obviously).

maddyone Sun 16-Oct-22 11:44:33

That doesn’t mean that I think criminals shouldn’t be punished though. They should be given prison sentences that fit the crime they’ve committed. And whilst a don’t like MM at all, I’m fairly sure she’s not a criminal though, and therefore despite my dislike, she doesn’t deserve a punishment.

volver Sun 16-Oct-22 11:44:12

I didn’t miss it at all.

I haven’t posted anywhere that I think she is vile so when you’re posting that, perhaps you need to examine your own motives.

I don’t want to be the sort of person that wants people to die.
Then why say it in the first place?

She didn't say it. She thought it. Then thought better of herself and realised that was the wrong way to think. Then talked about the whole process.

People on here could learn something about self awareness from her. But they won't.

maddyone Sun 16-Oct-22 11:41:00

I’m totally against the death penalty, anywhere and to anyone. So that clears that up. I don’t agree with wishing death on anyone, whoever they are. And I absolutely abhor the very idea of the death sentence, whoever they are! I hope I’ve made myself absolutely clear on that.

Chestnut Sun 16-Oct-22 11:39:21

Kate1949

She changed her mind because she thought it would reflect badly on her. So it was OK for her to say she got it wrong but not for people on here to say they got it wrong?

You could believe her angelic side appeared and made her understand the error of her ways. But I agree with Kate1949, she realised she can't go round in public wishing death on people and backtracked to save herself.

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 11:34:13

There were plenty of people on here wishing Putin dead; in fact, I made a thread about it, asking how people who were so against the death sentence could quite happily, and under what circumstances do a complete about turn.

I saw it reported that this woman has said she wished Boris Johnson would die when he had Covid. If this is true then she is an even more vile person than I thought she was. No one can make any claim to be an even half decent human being if one wishes other people dead!
I’m surprised by the number of accolades Gransnetters find themselves able to give to this woman. I dislike her intensely because she exhibits quite vile qualities, but I do not wish her to be dead!

So wishing for - say Hitler, or vile murderers such as Brady and Hindley, to be dead - would also make someone a bad person? I would wish for animal abusers to be dead - in fact, I'd happily inflict on them what they did to the animals, and I make no apologies for that. I still think I'm a fairly decent human being overall though...
