Films I have never watched because I know they would upset me..

I can't stand most horror/gore films that are seriously bloody and/or violent,
But films like Shaun of the Dead or Zombieland are amusing and quite entertaining and I enjoyed watching them.
But most modern horror is far too much for me, along with excessive depictions of any bodily fluids -- not just blood -- vomit, faeces, you get the idea.
I just can't look at it.
Luckily my child rearing days are long over. ?

Oh, I've never seen that, and have always fancied watching it.

Trainspotters, Clockwork Orange, Saving Private Ryan.

I like walking in the dark and for that reason I’ve never watched Blair Witch Project. I am sometimes tempted to see what it’s all about though.

I think that was me Chestnut. It was shown to our granddaughter in primary school. She was traumatised.

Someone said on a thread that The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas was being shown at school to fairly young children, possibly primary age. I wouldn't show that to any child under the age of 16. Do they explain to the children that the boys are being gassed? Don't teachers have any common sense?

When I was working asked ladies/girls I worked with to recommend a decent film to watch as I had a evening on my own. Husband and children all out .
Said I fancied a comedy nothing too heavy, one girl recommended Terms of Endearment Shirley Mclaine Debra Winger and Jack Nicholson, so off I pop to video store well before Netflix and get my dvd
Watching it kept on watching thinking it’s bound to liven up soon watched it right until the bitter end , won’t say so no spoilers sat there in tears for the rest of the evening
Lesson learned some people have a strange sense of humor

The Green Mile - watched it once and after I’d used the box of tissues, I had to resort to a towel!
Dumbo - Baby of mine - feeling teary, just remembering it.

I started to watch Blonde but had to stop when the mother tries to drown Norma Jean in the bath. I was able to read and enjoy the book though, some years ago.

A Clockwork Orange.

I have discovered videos of baby monkey "pets" on youtube that are totally and utterly foul.

They are something I wish I could unsee., and they are real, in the here and now.
I have rarely seen such depravity and animal abuse.

I can watch horror with gore and I particularly like zombie films, however I can't watch films where women are treated horribly or tortured. Not films where animals die. Old Yeller and Bambi were early experiences of that.

Sophie’s Choice.

Made the mistake of reading the book to find out what the choice was. Gave me nightmares for weeks. If you don’t know, keep it that way!

I wish I had never watched “The Last King of Scotland”.

I had to read American Psycho in small installments.
It was gratifyingly horrible.

Titanic
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (started reading the book - couldn’t finish it?. Ditto the film).

I thought the Boy in the Striped Pajamas was very good.
I gave up on Blonde - it was horrible.

I can watch horror and gore. I've seen some pretty dreadful films which would horrify many.

However I am unable to watch anything where a dog dies. I go as far as googling does the dog die in whatever film is on.

I'm the same Zoejory, I think because of my background (criminal justice), there's very little that can shock me any more, quite sad really.

This is timely for me. I very rarely watch films at all, but I was curious about Schindler’s List. I avoided it for very many years, but a few days ago I decided not to be so cowardly. It couldn’t tell me anything I didn’t know - and it didn’t. Awful as it was, it could have been a lot worse. I’m glad I watched it.

I think I’ll give The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas a miss, though.

Schindler's List

I watched Sophie's Choice before I had children but I couldn't watch that again now - three children later.

I won't watch Dumbo (the original) again as I was so upset when the Dumbo's mother was singing Baby of Mine to Dumbo. I know it's only a cartoon but it is bringing tears to me eyes just thinking about it.

I've never seen The Shining or Scar Face. I wish I hadn't seen Silence of the Lambs, I hated that scene where some innocent girl is duped into helping the mass murderer put a table or some such item in a van by edging her into the vehicle first to trap her, that haunted me. I don't like anything with torture in it, or horrible things happening to children or animals.

I loved Gladiator, Russell Crow was well fit in it all downhill from then on though.

I was going to watch "Blonde" on Netflix Marilyn Monroe biopic but critics unanimously slammed it for the way she is depicted at the hands of men in it, some of it true no doubt, but the general consensus was that it was pretty horrible viewing.
