Which series do you binge watch for comfort ?

Just realised that this week I have watched all the episodes of Dinnerladies again. Somehow I find it comforting and love watching Victoria Wood as Brenda with Julie Walters as her mum. It's not challenging and has a feel good message.
Wondered whether anyone else has a go to tv or film series when you feel a bit low ?

The original BBC All Creatures Great and Small. It was far more faithful to the books than the latest channel 5 series, which l find mawkish and anachronistic as they try to promote 21st century ideals into the 1930s.

I wouldn't say I watch it for comfort, but simply because I think it's one of the best crime dramas of the past few years, The Unforgotten, I recently watched all of them all over again. Oh to have something of that standard more often, the pairing of Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar's characters and the slow evolving but utterly compelling plot made it compulsive viewing for me.

A few years ago I quite enjoyed watching Delia Smith's Christmas food preparation around the end of the year.

I've also re watched the first Brideshead Revisited I was completely captivated by it back in the '80s.

Birds of a Feather, Fools and Horses and Rising Damp, Keeping Up Appearances. I can't stand Doc Martin. Glad it's over.

1st series of Outlander, filmed in Scotland, I'm less keen on it when they moved to France & America though they are still good, that 1st series is inspired though

Absolutely love outlander. I found they got better after every series. Characters really come to life.

I absolutely love The walking Dead🙂

My Dd got me into the Walking Dead a few weeks ago. It’s amazing. After you get over the Zombies and get into everyone’s back story and everything that’s going on it’s a fantastic show. We love it. We’re on series 5 and can’t wait to binge watch of an evening.

UKTV PLAY is brilliant! I've watched all episodes of Peak Practice (with the gorgeous Simon Shepherd), quite a bit of Lovejoy (ditto Ian Mcshane) and now working my way through Monarch of the Glen (Alistair McKenzie). Can't think of any modern day actors who match those 3!!🙂

I love dinner ladies too and Oh doctor Beeching. I’m watching On the busses and that series with Leonard Rossiter who plays the skinflint landlord of student flats. I can’t remember the name.

The Leonard Rossiter series about the student flats was "Rising Damp."

The handsome young black medical student, Philip Smith, was played by Don Warrington who went on to play Commissioner Selwyn Patterson in "Death in Paradise."

Ever decreasing circles. I loved Richard Briers as the put down Martin , Paul his neighbour (Peter Egan). Always managed to upstage him and do it better. !!

Does anyone recommend a series like A Place to call Home, Five Bedrooms or Offspring? Many thanks

A Place to Call Home is simply the best series ever made anywhere!
Five Bedrooms is very nice to watch but not in the same league.

Repair Shop! It’s so calming and often emotional without being overly gushing. The specialists are amazing at what they do. I like the way everything is taken at an appropriate pace rather than against the clock like many ‘similar’ programmes. The recent episode with Prince Charles (as he was then) was excellent - acknowledged the value of apprenticeships and recognised that academia is not for everyone. Watching Repair Shop feels like snuggling up under a cosy blanket!

Mollygo Mon 31-Oct-22 09:55:03

LizzieDrip yes, the Repair Shop. The skills they have and the painstaking work that goes into restoring some of those items is amazing.

The Sandbaggers. Excellent spy series; a little stylized for the contemporary audience; recall that it was first broadcast in the late 1970's. Simple presentation, complex plot, great characters and acting.
