Which series do you binge watch for comfort ?

Just realised that this week I have watched all the episodes of Dinnerladies again. Somehow I find it comforting and love watching Victoria Wood as Brenda with Julie Walters as her mum. It's not challenging and has a feel good message.
Wondered whether anyone else has a go to tv or film series when you feel a bit low ?

I love the sci-fi series 'Stargate SG-1' and most of the follow-ons, but I'm not keen on the 'Ori' ones.
They bring back happy memories for me!

Comfort only?

Foyles War. The sheer decency of the man is comforting.
Some Agatha Christie stuff.
Light weight detective stuff
Death in Paradise (sun, sea, solved)
USA stuff...West Wing (when politicians cared) ditto "Law and Order"
Scenic Railways (scenery I'll never see in my life)

And blasts from the past Black Adder, and Yes Minister, and sometimes Red Dwarf, takes me back to when DS a teenager and we all enjoyed together.

Another vote for Virgin River here. I'm thinking of joining a U3A knitting group just because they meet in a pub! Maybe I'm expecting too much?? grin

Grantchester.
Any drama that clashes with another one.
I've just started Nine Perfect Strangers.

Just finished Everwood (on ITV hub)- feel quite bereft now!

My go-to feel good programme is "A Place in the Sun."
I have it on series record. Fast forward through the adverts and it's 40 minutes of escapism, and debate if my husband's in the room.
We'll probably never buy abroad but it's fun discussing it! ?

I always put Two Doors Down on when I’m busy and on my own in the house. I love hearing them and I know it word for word. Feel like I have company.

Agree that Virgin River is like a cosy comfort blanket (4 seasons so far).
The most gorgeous feel good series of all time is A Place to Call Home and there are 67 episodes to indulge in.
I bought Upstairs, Downstairs on DVD (68 episodes) and that is just wonderful. I think it might also be on catchup somewhere.
I might return to Downton Abbey at some point but not yet as it's still too fresh in my mind.

Doc Martin. Lovely scenery, sunshine. Cheers me up and reminds me of when we watched them filming it whilst on holiday in Port Isaac. I'm sure life must be like that somewhere!

The same for me too smile I love it.

Another Dinner ladies here.
I have to find other programs though, because I dont want to 'wear it out' so to speak.
So, Motherland next.
Maybe Green Wing if I feel like getting the CD out.

NCIS. The whole series from the start is being shown on 5. About half way through now. It’s hilarious/tongue in cheek apart from the extreme overuse of firearms. Shoot first, ask later. (Typical US)

I love Schitts Creek too and could watch it for ever.
And Mrs Brown always makes me laugh.

Redhead56
I’m on my 3rd time of watching the series and I still cry when David sings Your Simply the Best to Patrick ?

I've watched Gavin and Stacey many times already and I'll watch it again. It makes me laugh and I love the characters.
The title put me off for ages.. I thought it would be for teenagers.

West Wing
To The Manor Born
As Time Goes By

NotSpaghetti Thu 27-Oct-22 12:40:12

Oh, I loved Green Wing too, and more recently Offspring which I binge-watched.

NotSpaghetti Thu 27-Oct-22 12:34:48

I don't tend to watch things a second time so Gogglebox - used to like Mock the Week when it was fresh Have I Got News for You.

Series I've watched purely for fun/being gentle include Shitts Creek and Seaside Hotel.
I did watch Poldark too. That was ok.

All Creatures Great and Small. The Christopher Timothy version. The West Wing. And various Jane Austen films. Emma with Garola Garai is a favourite.

nanasam Thu 27-Oct-22 12:20:58

I'm currently working my way through Game of Thrones for the third time! With 80+ episodes, it takes some bingeing!

I like that, too. Yesterday was the last ever episode ☹️

I’m watching Downton Abbey again I love it.

MiniMoon Thu 27-Oct-22 11:50:46

I bought the first series of Bewitched from Prime Video. Its my comfort blanket when I'm not feeling my best.

Brideshead Revisited has seen me through some dark times!
