SAS:Rogue Heroes

A good friends father was in the SAS towards the end of WW2.
A lot of his story is documented but the family have little detail as he didn’t feel able to tell his full story.
He was a true gentleman.

It was of course the dramatized version of what happened, we enjoyed binge watching and I’m sure that the story line was pretty accurate. Was the constant swearing really a true reflection of army speech at that time ? or was it deliberately spice up for modern effect. As For Jack O’Connell playing Bond maybe, he is a very talented actor

Bing watched SAS Rogue Heroes over 6 days. I really liked it though hadn’t been expecting to.

It was on BBC4. Now on iplayer.

On what channel is the documentary?

I can imagine that. A proper cheeky chappie. Angelina Jolie (who’s underestimated as. director imo) cast him in Unbroken. He was brilliant in that. I think that theatre school had a lot of support from Prince Harry who did a lot of secret charity work at the time. I binge watched the series last night (got an awful cold and can’t move off the sofa). I don’t think I would have made much sense of it if I hadn’t watched the documentary first.and I understand why it has to point out that most of the events in the series did actually take place because they do seem so far fetched. I did want to like the series because of it’s links to Peaky Blinders so I’m glad it didn’t disappoint.

This is one of the times I wish my father in law was still alive. He was captured in the desert and spent the rest of the war as a prisoner of war but he had got friendly with David Stirling and stayed in touch with him for the rest of his life. I'd love to have got his opinion of the show.

MayBee I knew Jack when he was at school at Saint Benedict in Derby. I used to work there (first in the mid 2000’s and again in my last role)

DH is watching it. I am just listening to the music and intrigued as to the choice.

I watched the other three episodes and enjoyed them just as much as the first three. Worst Churchill portrayal I’ve ever seen on film but the rest of the cast, who were mostly unknown to me, were fine. Only “faces I really knew were Alfie Allen, Dominic West and Cesar Domboy. Jack O’Connell was superb as Paddy Mayne.
And I have no idea who Bodach is referring to, there was an American in the first episode for all of a few minutes, never saw him again.
David Stirling’s real life story after his capture is extraordinary, he ended up in Colditz due to his constant escape efforts.

The music is to loud and overpowers everything.

I gave up after about 20 minutes.

Not overly impressed with the first episode. - complete with glamorous French Agent, who will doubtless reappear from time to time.
And I wonder why one of the main protagonists turns out to be an American. Couldn't be anything to do with selling the series to the US, could it?

I haven’t watched it yet but will because Jack O’Connel is patron of our local cinema and I watch everything he’s in. But last night, whilst channel hopping I started watching SAS Rogue Warriors which is a repeat of a 3 part series about the real people who started the SAS. I’m not keen on anything about war but I was transfixed by the programmes and I’m going to watch them properly with DH. The sheer bravery of those men is astounding. I don’t know when the series was originally made but it had several interviews with some of the men themselves. It really brings the horror of war home to you because the things they experienced and had to overcome were beyond belief.

I’ve watched three episodes and really enjoyed them. The sound quality was fine to me, although I do always use sub-titles as well when they are available. I loved the music, it was a real mix of genres and periods.

We watched it but found the sound quality was poor. Very loud music but very quiet speaking, we had to turn the volume up quite a lot.
We found it interesting and will watch the rest of it.

I watched it for about twenty minutes and then found myself nodding off. I’ll have to catch up on it. I read a book about David Stirling. If it’s anything like as interesting as that it will be a good series.

Mr C enjoyed it. I had half an eye on my book.
