I'm a celebrity

I can’t see another thread so apologies if there is
After years of not bothering with “I m a celebrity get me out of here” I decided to have a look as I like Boy George
And I have to say I m in now so will need to keep watching this ridiculously daft programme even if it’s just to combat the depressing days
Anyway what do you all think ?

4allweknow Mon 21-Nov-22 17:02:09

What's the point of IACGMOOH? Do the celebrities do it all for charity? The MPs declaration of interest in dyslexia is his fee going to charity? If it is all does to benefit charitable organisations, well done. If not is it not just sensationalisation for the participants.

Trifle? Trifle? As if I'd ever eat that!! Now where's that Strictly thread. I loathe that programme. Must tell people that.

I think Boy George (though surely Boy is pushing it these days..) is coming over as a truly nasty sort, totally self-obsessed. Matt Hancock is as needy as a spaniel puppy, desperate to be liked. I find the whole thing absolutely fascinating!

Grannynannywanny Mon 21-Nov-22 16:44:47

It always makes me chuckle on Gransnet when a tv programme is being discussed and folk take the time to post to say they wouldn’t dream of watching it.

I watch it every year and enjoy it. I also love trifle 😋

Only watched part of it but what a superb team player Jill Stott is.

I like the programme and think this years camp mates are a good bunch who largely get on but really dislike Boy George. Apart from his criminal record for really abusing a man I hated how when asked about it he said it was inappropriate to be asked. I think he is really nasty and his constant droning ( meditation ) would drive me bonkers.
I think this year there has been too much focus on eating and drinking anus, balls, penises and vaginas. It’s as if Ant and Dec get off on speaking about them and they do a lot.
I know Ant and Dec are really popular an£ I am in the minority but I find them very childish and their banter seems over rehursed.

GrammarGrandma Mon 21-Nov-22 16:27:26

Wouldn't dream of it, regardless of who was on.

Smileless2012 Mon 21-Nov-22 16:25:32

That conversation for me is the highlight so far Joseannesmile.

Sasta Mon 21-Nov-22 16:13:30

That’s exactly what I think paddyann54, We were horrified by the sheer unpleasantness and cruelty of that 80s Japanese show, which I think was introduced within a show by Chris Tarrant? I think I’m a celeb is similar but I might watch if the trials didn’t include the gross eating elements.

Fair enough. You are entitled to your view, but there are many that disagree: www.rspca.org.uk/getinvolved/campaign/imaceleb#:~:text=Stop%20cruelty%20at%20the%20I,m%20a%20Celebrity%20is%20unacceptable.

Ant isn't sqeaky clean either!!
Can't understand all the mianing about missing families, and the tears on getting letters! What in the hell would they do if, like service men, or long distance orry drivers, they had to be parted for months and, in the case if war, for years. Pathetic all if them!

Well thanks for posting that you hate a programme that most of us posters are enjoying following.
I'm just off to post on a topic that I hate and never watch !!

Shall we start a thread about Trifles at Christmas Aveline?

"Ooh, yes, always make a sherry trifle at Christmas"
"It shouldn't have sherry in it"
"Oh, I hate trifle"
"Never made one"
"Who likes jelly in a trifle?"
"Disgusting, do you know how gelatine is made?"
"DH loves it but I refuse to make one"
"All that cream and custard, yuk".

Trifling problems in the scheme of things.
😁

if he had spoken to me in the portentous way he spoke to Matt Hancock I don’t think I would have been so polite but then Matt H probably thinks BG is an idiot anyway.
We've already discussed that Matt is highly intelligent and has studied at both Oxford and Cambridge. He has total self control and knows how to deal with rude people. Never be rude back, just stay polite.

I think Boy George is a pompous and arrogant twit. I could never say, Zoejory, that a person who had handcuffed a man to radiator and abused him, had ‘done his time’. I bet the guy who was abused is still suffering from that, especially considering George’s pathetic sentence. AND if he had spoken to me in the portentous way he spoke to Matt Hancock I don’t think I would have been so polite but then Matt H probably thinks BG is an idiot anyway.

I quite agree about Boy George
I can't stand the man. He's awful

I know I should be kind but I can't be

Chestnut Mon 21-Nov-22 15:06:18

I have never watched I'm a Celeb.... before but am following it avidly this time, since I heard MH was going on. I don't watch for the trials, it's the interplay between him and the others which has been fascinating. Especially at the start.

DellaandtgeDealer Mon 21-Nov-22 15:04:41

I agree that some people maybe confused re the voting @Nanatoone, was shocked Scarlette was voted out, she seems lovely. I reckon Jill to win though!

GrauntyHelen Mon 21-Nov-22 15:04:22

I'd rather stick pins in my eyes but my mother and aunt are glued to this every year

Not the Strictly thread please Aveline.

"Get out of my pub," springs to mind as an appropriate response.

It did rather go off at a tangent, didn't it 😁

I must admit to rarely watching it before but we have this time for no particular reason except we're bored.

Lizzie44 Mon 21-Nov-22 14:53:00

Never watched it, apart from clips on Gogglebox. Can't bear it. In the 1980s Clive James used to have an item in his show featuring a Japanese game show "Endurance" where Japanese contestants put themselves through uncomfortable and painful situations. Couldn't stand that either. It's amazing what passes as entertainment.

I think one of the most revealing and genuine conversations was Matt, Baba and Sean last night talking about their school days. Matt and his dyslexic brain, Baba as a troublesome black boy in gangsterland Tottenham, and Sean being sent out from class and then playing the fool. All of them imperfect human beings, just like the rest of us. No one-upmanship, no sneering, just listening to each other, respecting differences and learning.

I watched the first few series but now never watch it as I don't agree with the treatment and sometimes slaughter of insects and rodents merely for entertainment's sake. I would prefer it to be stopped.

They get collected and passed on to wildlife sanctuaries.

Not to be rescued, sorry, but for food.
All part of the food chain as I mentioned earlier.
They help to preserve endangered animals which can only be a good thing.

I can't feel sorry for a cockroach.

LuckyFour Mon 21-Nov-22 14:21:03

I like the show and have been very impressed by Matt Hancock. He has been up for all the challenges and has done them with good grace and good humour. Most of the others have also been generous and supportive to each other. I'm in a minority in that I don't like Boy George, I find him rude and self obsessed.

inishowen Mon 21-Nov-22 14:19:29

I'm enjoying the show. This year hubby has watched it for the first time too. We actually voted. Matt Handcock is my winner. George is not for me. He tries to start conflict.
