Never forget the Navy Lark 'left hand down a bit'!

Loved that when I was a kid.
About 20 years ago I found some BBC recording of the Navy Lark and bought them for my then teenage Son.
He loved them just as much as I did today he message me to say.. The Sub - Lt has died. RIP Mr Phillips

Oh, ratherr!

Hate to say it, but he’s another famous ‘old’ star who I wasn’t sure was still alive.

He lived to a ripe old age.

Chestnut Tue 08-Nov-22 16:56:47

Wonderful man, a real national treasure. I wasn't sure if he was alive because he had a dreadful stroke in 2015 and I hadn't heard any more, kinda assumed he had passed on. His loving wife had been looking after him, although I don't think he's been very well since then poor man.

Everyone hates the Daily Mail, but they can do a fantastic spread when someone dies. Couldn't ask for better:
Fantastic article on Leslie Phillips

I had the same thoughtCG

Bill Treacher has died too, he was 92.

RIP

Aw, RIP Leslie Phillips.
Definitely ‘ding dong!’ Was that the Carry On films?

Thank you Pittcity about Bill Treacher (See photo).
An Eastenders stalwart as Arthur Fowler.
He had a lovely smile didn’t he?
Condolences to his family & friends too tonight. Another man who reached good age for sure, but still.

MissAdventure Tue 08-Nov-22 18:56:54

Carry on cruising, was it?
Was he a fitness instructor, and miss Bell a teacher?

Witzend Tue 08-Nov-22 19:00:40

I well remember seeing him at a ‘dinner theatre’ when we lived in Oman - theatre companies would do a Middle East tour, and we’d have dinner first, at one of the big hotels, before the play. Always a comedy, IIRC, and you had to book early to get places.

Aeons ago now so I can’t remember what play it was - but I don’t think I’ll ever forget how he brought the house down - merely by raising an eyebrow!
What a comic talent - RIP, Leslie.

He'd been doing The Navy Lark for six months before I even started school

Great actor whose voice you knew without having to look at the screen. RIP flowers.

Loved Leslie Phillips R.I.P.
Probably wouldn’t get away with the leering now, but it was funny👍

NanKate Tue 08-Nov-22 19:46:08

I don’t hate the Daily Mail Chestnut. The articles by Dr Pemberton, Dr Scur, Sarah Vine, and some of the other journalists are really good.

Yes LP really made me laugh, however I expect some of today’s ‘wokerati’ wouldn’t have liked him.

Sadly there are few people TV/Radio personalities who make me laugh now.

I’d love to see some old Dick Emery shows.

I digress - RIP Leslie you will be much missed. 💐
