Do not know about now - but back in 1928 in East London, my parent married on 25th December (okay it was in a synaogue). My Dad deliberately chose that day, as it meant that his workplace was already going to be closed, so he was not losing another days pay!!!
Always made Christmas very special as we celebrated their anniversary. For several years, they were collected by hubbie (they never, ever had a car), and once they arrived and had a wlecoming cup of tea with mince pie, then the children were allowed to open their christmas tree pressies.
I know some of you may be confused as synagogue wedding and christmas tree - but as a a family we have always been very happy to celebrate any event which is involves family, food and festivities!!!
