Just that really...such an interesting lively/hot threaded debate shock..smile

Oh have people been "torn apart"? I must have missed that. All I saw was two people telling their own version of a few major events in their lives.
And yes they have some lovely supportive friends which makes you think they can't be quite as toxic as some posters allege.

Smileless2012 Mon 19-Dec-22 19:21:51

Happy people don't feel the need to tear others apart very true Lathyrus.

Lathyrus Mon 19-Dec-22 18:45:29

No, it was Oprah that sold it for £7 million.

She owes them a favour or two😬

merlotgran Mon 19-Dec-22 18:41:45

Apparently they didn’t get paid for the Oprah interview.

Well at leas he's behaving better in his new life, supporting his wife and caring for his children

Supporting his wife and children has been made possible by the support and generosity of others.

The loaned mansion on Vancouver Island.
The ‘freedom flight’ in a private jet to another loaned mansion, courtesy of Tyler Perry.
Payment from Oprah Winfrey for sticking the knife into his family.
Massive upfront payments from Netflix and his publishers for the same.
Payments from his father - now ceased.

I presume Meghan contributes her share.

I think he may have to have a crash course in ‘supporting a family’ when the support of others dries up!

So why doesn't he just get on and enjoy his life with his wife and children, and leave his family alone to get on with theirs?

Sadly, I don't believe anything Harry says anymore. He has lost touch with real life as he knew it, which was a strange world but one he was familiar with, and he has failed to replace it with a stable life where he feels comfortable.

Wife and children? That was what he wanted and envied William for having. Sounds good to me.

Not really, but Merlotgran mentioned Oscars. Most actresses who have won an Oscar or been nominated for best actress have a vast repertoire year in year out. Like Nicole Kidman, Kate Winslett, Judi Dench, Meryl Streep etc they have all played very diverse roles and don't stick to one character type. They are the real greats alongside the likes if Katherine Hepburn.
Oh and Emma Thompson shows great versatility in her acting roles too. I like her.

Lucca Mon 19-Dec-22 15:34:23

Joseanne

But her acting is very one trip poney though merlotgran.

Does that matter ! Look at Ken Barlow Audrey Roberts etc

Why do people imagine their family life has anything in common with this lot who are actually The Firm.
Nothing remotely in common, but human nature is timeless and universal with all its family strife. Many parallels can be seen in our own lives.

Callistemon21 Mon 19-Dec-22 11:57:07

Quite right, eazybee
Good manners

No, Biglouis, nothing to do with rival offices, it is upbringing, or more simply, manners.

You do not attempt to upstage a newly married couple at their wedding breakfast by announcing your pregnancy, thus diverting attention to yourself. I was a pregnant bridesmaid to my sister in law, and only the immediate family knew; we would not have dreamt of drawing attention to it on their day.

eazybee did you watch the series? Harry was quite clear that he and William knew about how their parent's press offices briefed against each other and both said they wouldn't let that happen. Until their offices split and that was exactly what happened. The job of a Press officer is to get their employer on the front page which also means keeping others off it.

But we know who did exactly that!!

It gave us some useful information on how things are at the palace behind the scenes, and the level of competition between the offices who represent various principals.

For example if A is getting married, then B and C are not allowed to announce their pregnancy on the same day as it might detract from the "shine" of what has been designated the main event. There is a lot of bitching, bickering and back biting between various royals and their courtiers. This despite the fact that they like to present a united front.

However the series was over long and very very boring in parts. 3 espisodes would have been more than sufficient.

I've heard Camilla likes Strictly, so she probably questioned Tess and Claudia as to whether the voting is fixed.

Who knew Dame Judi Dench, Dame Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Maureen Lipman et al were beyond the pale? They must be because they were at the same lunch. To the tower with the lot of them!!!

Haha!

I'd have loved to have been there. Lots of jolly interesting folk to talk to. Or listen to.

Marvellous fun.

Nooooo! You have to check out all the other invited guests, otherwise...... you might find yourself exposed to opposing views rather than be safely bubbled in your protective echo chamber. grin

Harris27 Mon 19-Dec-22 00:32:57

Haven’t watched it but tempted. But I’m a royalist and know it’ll upset me. Can’t decide.

Well I'd like to chat to all of them. I'm not a social snob. If you could get a word in that is. They are not really noted for their listening skills, especially with so many starry guests there 😉

Callistemon21 Sun 18-Dec-22 20:28:54

I'd like to chat with Maureen Lipman.
And Hugh Bonneville, of course.
