22 pages of gossip about H and M in the Mail - if that’s not being hounded by the press I don’t know what is. Of course having royals whose main function is to attend events, be photographed and wave, maintains class divisions and inequality. If we were setting up a new country now few would suggest they invented a monarchy.

Paddyanne, the Windsors are glorious entertainment but I wonder if it's right to be entertained by others' troubles, even when they are well paid for it.

Entertainment apart, do you think having a royal family helps to maintain the present class system? If the Windsors all took to speaking Glaswegian all the time, doing their own housework , ans sending their children to the comprehensive school would we still be fascinated?

I wonder if their marriage will last. I think he is quite besotted with her. Will she tire of him being so needy.

When they have no more information to feed to the press, will there be enough in their life to settle down to a quiet existence? I doubt it.

I believe M thrives on being in the limelight. Maybe she will go back to acting and H will become a house husband.

Who knows.

Just my rambling thoughts.

The press frequently has to make do with little information, it doesn't stop them writing endless editorials penned by 'experts' and those royal 'watchers'... the media can even make a news item out of Markle attending the opening of some fairly insignificant event.
The tabloids have latched on to the couple, so they'll find way to keep them relevant.
They'll only stop when the interest fades which doesn't look much like it will happen any time soon.
As much as people say they're fed up with H&M and "wish they'd just go away and live quietly" - they still devour everything that's written about them.

Sarah74, thank you very much for that link. Very kind. Appreciated.

I'm just wondering why anyone would think it is OK for tabloid newspapers to post photos and write accounts of someone's every move, but think it is wrong if those people choose to tell their own story?
Who said any of that? It's not wrong for them to tell their story but not if it's just one long whinge stuffed full of lies and unsubstantiated accusations.

Harry and Meg's Californian Shiraz?

Well they've got lots of experience in whining!

Chestnut Fri 16-Dec-22 23:57:25

Where does it make out they are being difficult? It just says they are breaking with tradition, no criticism that I can see.

Glorianny Fri 16-Dec-22 22:42:18

The birth happened at the Portland not the Lindo Wing of St Mary's because that was where the doctor Meghan wanted was working. The Lindo Wing entrance is on a comparatively small quiet street which is easily secured. The Portland isn't. It was completely impracticable. So there was no traditional photo shoot. This is one of the articles, praising the Cambridges and making out M&H were being difficult. www.townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition/a26990385/prince-harry-meghan-markle-pose-hospital-royal-baby-history-photos/

You can only eat so much bread.
Especially if you need to keep your figure if you're an actress.

Chickens (they already have them)
Alpacas (very popular now)
Grow your own organic veg (good for growing children)
Vines? Harry and Meg's Californian Shiraz?

GagaJo Fri 16-Dec-22 21:24:04

Maybe a bit John Lennon and Yoko Ono? Maybe he'll bake bread. JL said it was very therapeutic.

But after Archie’s birth, when Harry was speaking excitedly to reporters outside their home….he didn’t lie, but the implication that the birth had taken place there was very evident.

It only emerged later that the birth happened in a hospital, albeit not St Mary’s Paddington.

Nothing to do with a photo shoot. They had wanted a home birth ideally, but then things changed, and they opted for hospital in the end.

Just seen a photograph of M when she was heavily pregnant. She's so slim and had such a huge bump, it didn't look likely that a home birth would be possible. I know there is more to it than that, but...

Yes Glorianny, interesting about the Portland. I used to wait outside it in the 1980s to catch my bus home from uni, and the hospital entrance came right out onto the narrow busy pavement. There would certainly have been no room for photographers there.
The press got that one completely wrong.

I thought there were some interesting accounts of what really happened. Like the first photos of Archie not taken on the hospital steps like most Royal babies, not because Meghan was fussy but because he was born in a different hospital.

I think it was a good documentary and gave their side of story.

All the palaces do brief to the press so all very undignified

Quite.

Lucca Fri 16-Dec-22 19:07:30

So is this a new Netflix H an M thread? Let’s change the record. record please. Or we could maybe turn it into some kind of bingo game ?

Bea65 Fri 16-Dec-22 18:57:50

Learnt today that the Royal Correspondents (Journalists) are on a rota for RF and only one from these groups of Press are allocated to be present/record events etc and they Share info...is this fact or ??

I wonder how M & H's children will feel when they are older and have a greater understanding of the family dynamics. Yes the carol service at Westminster Abbey was the perfect antidote.

I can't imagine what the children will say 18 years from now. I don't think I'll be around to read about that! Will they feel supportive of their parents or completely disgusted with them? I guess they will have been endlessly told H&M's side of the story by then, and the idea of their private lives being portrayed for the whole world to see might not faze them. Who knows? It is fast turning into a very different world from the one we knew even 20 years ago so maybe they will find it all perfectly normal.

Joseanne Fri 16-Dec-22 18:14:18

I think the service will be broadcast on Christmas Eve. ITV?
