Just watched the trailer for new documentary series which Harry and Megan say was inspired by their admiration for Nelson Mandela, Greta Thunberg and Jacinda Ardern amongst others.
They say they are " living to lead others" and want to teach us all to do the same and create a better world.
Is this the beginning of their foray into a political career ?

Meghan’s aim is to be the first black female POTUS.
This is all part of her cunning plan. She sees the RF as small fry.
Who knows, we may see Harry walking two steps behind her (happening now), as she fills our screens day after day.
After Reagan and Trump, anything is possible.

I deal in facts ma'am.

Just the facts. 😂😂

I see your Gone with the Wind and raise you a Dragnet.

So, when proved wrong, take refuge in personal attack

Double standards
You can rubbish what others post, but anybody who presumes to have a different point of view is guilty of personal attack
Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn either way

It is so funny that people rage on about how H & M should be earning their own living and not making programmes about their family, then when they do just that they are castigated for making programmes about anything.

They are building a reputation in the US and linking in to organisations. Much of it isn't reported here (I wonder why?) Their commitment to equality is recognised and honoured not least by the Robert F Kennedy awards. Approval by the Kennedys carries a lot of weight in the US.

Joseanne 🤣
You got it in one.

Joseanne Tue 20-Dec-22 22:46:21

so they would have somebody to be contemptuous of and so on forevermore
I guess this is the way people get a heightened sense of self importance or power?

I will never understand why people make things up that are so easy to disprove.

They must be so encouraged to have you in their corner

So, when proved wrong, take refuge in personal attack.

Wish I could say I was surprised.

Kindly Unhitch That Star Buddy.
😄Thanks MawThe Merrier it was great to read that poem again. So true isn’t it? I think H and M want to be brilliant in fits and starts.

It’s by Ogden Nash and is called “ Kindly Unhitch That Star”

I hardly suppose I know anybody who wouldn't rather be a success than a failure,
Just as I suppose every piece of crabgrass in the garden would much rather be an azalea,
And in celestial circles all the run-of-the-mill angels would rather be archangels or at least cherubim and seraphim.
And in the legal world all the little process-servers hope to grow up into great big bailiffim and sheriffim
Indeed, everybody wants to wow
But not everybody knows exactly how.
Some people think they will eventually wear diamonds instead of rhinestones
Only by everlastingly keeping their noses to their grindstones,
And other people think they will be able to put in more time at Palm Beach and the Ritz
By not paying too much attention to attendance at the office
but rather in being brilliant by starts and fits
Some people after a full day's work sit up all night getting a college education by correspondence,
While others seem to think they'll get just as far by
devoting their evenings to the study of the
difference in temperament
between brunettance and blondance
Some stake their all on luck, And others put their faith in their ability to pass the buck.
In short, the world is filled with people trying to achieve success,
And half of them think they'll get it by saying No and half of them by saying Yes
And if all the ones who said No said Yes, and vice versa, such
is the fate of humanity that ninety-nine percent of them still wouldn't be any better off than they were before,

which perhaps is just as well because if everybody was a
success nobody could be contemptuous of anybody else and
everybody would start in all over again trying to be a bigger
success than everybody else so they would have somebody to be contemptuous of and so on forevermore
Because when people start hitching their wagons to a star

That's the way they are.

Actually, at school Meghan did land herself the top leadership job, that of Head Girl. She must have been a popular choice with staff and her peers.

As I remember the process of selecting school leaders was as open to manipulation as any election in some of the less well run countries and Head teachers generally got the leaders they wanted, someone pleasant and bidable.

Netflix is in a quandary they signed an exorbitantly expensive $100 million contract with the Sussexes, during the hype that surrounded them after their flit. At that time Netflix was riding high as well. More recently it has been reported to have lost over a million subscribers this year and is having content with drawn

I think that Netflix are beginning to realise that getting value from the contract with the Sussexes is not going to be easy. The bubble of euphoria that surrounded the Sussexes is deflating fast and their public appeal is shrinking fast in the US as well as the UK.

Netflix has got to squeeze every cent they can out of the contract, and programmes like the one discussed on this thread are a good way of making money by attaching the Sussexes names on old material rehashed from real leaders, in the hopes that the interviews with people who are leaders will carry the programme and Netflix will make enough to claw back the losses they now realise are likely.

So, to sum up, they hitched their wagon to the Mandela Foundation.

There’s a funny poem by an American poet of yesteryear called something like Kindly Unhitch That Wagon, Buddy.
All about being talentless but hitching your wagon to a star.
Maybe somebody know it well?

I know in my day, that position meant being dependable and a bit bossy! But it also meant adopting an approach that was fair to all, not complaining, and certainly not throwing things off balance. Other people can be led, but not driven, to follow. It's a fine balance.
I don't doubt that Meghan had, or maybe still has, the potential to be inspirational, if only she could refrain from constantly criticising and castigating those she dislikes.

Nelson Mandelas grandsons recollections. They appear to be different 🤔

An extreme example of self importance by someone who had achieved nothing.

Forsythia Tue 20-Dec-22 20:38:20

Notable leaders I suppose are few on the ground really. Those who make a good impact, that is.
As for Harry I doubt he had the skill set required to be a notable leader in anything. Hence why he is so bitter and jealous of his brother.

Zoejory Tue 20-Dec-22 20:37:37

Dearie me, I do confuse easily. I shall blame it on my brain and its malfunctions. .

I understand totally what's what now. Phew. Thank goodness I've managed to grasp it.

My problem now though is how to pronounce the title. I keep seeing it and pronouncing the live as in Live Aid and Lead as in the metal.

Hopefully that will also improve with time.

Katie59 Tue 20-Dec-22 20:27:43

Of course Harry was in a privileged position easily able to become a leader in whatever field he chose, but he didn’t.
Instead the fled the country with an American divorcee complaining how badly they have been treated. Instead of doing something useful they sell their sob story, betraying his family.

The west has had few notable political leaders in recent years, Obama and Merkel I suppose, are there any others that have had a global influence?.

Smileless2012 Tue 20-Dec-22 19:50:12

Another example of how recollections may vary Meryl.

It's like a parallel universe.

Watch the blooming trailer - all is revealed.

So they are going to "present" a ready made series of interviews, a bit like a TV presenter. Was Fiona Bruce not available then?
What price tacking on a sleb endorsement?
Don't pretend it is anything more than that.
