In particular, the Christmas Day edition.

Well, not much else to watch really.

Is it time the residents of Nonnatus House moved on?

Matthew had a very nice singing voice.

Trixie seemed to be wearing an outfit made of bacofoil at the end.

I agree about Sister Monica, often at death’s door, but rallying round just in time.

As is usual for me, I've enjoyed this latest series. I'm pleased that there will be another, (2?), series to look forward to.

Aveline Mon 27-Feb-23 11:24:48

It's that wet doctor I can't stand!

Maggiemaybe Mon 27-Feb-23 10:02:19

It’s my Sunday night indulgence and I love it, daft as it is. Sister Monica Joan is getting on my wick now though, and I can’t say I’d be sorry to see her go gentle into that good night. She seems to threaten to do so at least twice a series.

LadyGracie Mon 27-Feb-23 08:53:23

It’s tosh but easy viewing, totally unrealistic, but I’ll continue to watch it and enjoy!

Grannynannywanny Mon 27-Feb-23 08:40:53

I do enjoy it every week although I found last night’s car accident scene rather perplexing. Very unrealistic that a doctor and nurse would make no attempt to resuscitate someone they’d found in cardiac arrest as a result of an accident just seconds earlier. At the very least they could have performed CPR and kept the mother and baby’s circulation going till an ambulance arrived. Instead they left the mother’s heart stopped and performed a dramatic c.section in the middle of the road 🤷‍♀️

Me too Calendargirl.

Calendargirl Mon 27-Feb-23 07:20:45

I still have it to watch, as I tuned in to Endeavour.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 27-Feb-23 07:12:24

I enjoy 60 minutes of escapism on a Sunday evening once I have cleared up the dinner debris.

I know it’s corny, but it suits me.

Aveline Mon 27-Feb-23 06:48:48

Two more series to come. 😑

Rosie51 Mon 27-Feb-23 00:42:30

Corny, trite, sentimental tosh..... whatever, I still enjoy it grin. I haven't watched any of the soaps in probably 10-15 years but don't decry those who still enjoy them. Each to their own, enjoy the escapism that suits you best!

Allegretto Mon 27-Feb-23 00:14:40

Exactly what I thought, Merlotgran.

merlotgran Sun 26-Feb-23 22:35:25

Trixie’s wedding rivalled The Sound of Music. 😂

I enjoyed it but, having been a health visitor, I was irritated by the way she was depicted.

I started watching this series a few years after it started and fell in love with it. I also enjoyed all the books. It was always going to be special too me as it was must see TV with a dear friend who died a few years ago. The fashions and furniture also bought back happy memories of my early childhood. My initially sceptical daughter also became a big fan.
I'm sure those who love the series remember the genuinely moving storyline when the tears just flowed, with happiness or sadness.
Now? Hmm. We eagerly anticipated the Christmas day special. It was okay. There are some "ahhh" moments and still an enjoyable sense of nostalgia. I also feel its becoming twee to the point of parody. I certainly felt this with DR Turner and his family. Their story has been so wonderful. Unfortunately to me it feels that in the first two episodes they have gone beyond wholesome to ,well twee and OTT. It's so sad,as if the series has lost its heart. Both my daughter and I feel that we are being manipulated into feeling emotions that came naturally by an overused formula. It was quite sad that at times in this new series we found some aspects amusing due to their efforts to tug on our heartstrings. There is still some heart in the programme, and we will continue to watch. Maybe it's been a victim of its own success.

This is a good book for anyone interested.

Yes, late 60s. I lived for a while in Loughton (TOWIE land) and there was a new town called Debden (on the Central Line) which housed people from East London, mainly Bethnal Green and places around there, in 1960s. I believe the new town had been built after the war and gradually filled up. It wasn't particularly nice in my opinion, I would rather have been back in East London.

SueDonim Wed 04-Jan-23 23:33:05

I think it’s 1968, but couldn’t swear to that.

Callistemon21 Wed 04-Jan-23 23:23:52

We haven't watched it yet but what year is it now?

Hadn't the population mostly moved out to the New Towns by the late 1960s?

Lilypops Wed 04-Jan-23 23:19:30

I find Dr Turner with that same expression/grin so irritating

SueDonim Tue 03-Jan-23 17:44:13

It was lovely, easy viewing. The wonky Christmas tree made me laugh as we have that argument…I mean discussion…every year in this house. grin

ginny Tue 03-Jan-23 16:41:49

I love it, corn an’ all.
So much nicer than all the blood, gore, murder , violence and so called comedy of many other programmes

Calendargirl Tue 03-Jan-23 15:59:38

Aveline

If prefer it if they lost that sacchariney intro and end piece. It's nauseating.

Vanessa Redgrave sounds as though she is on her last legs, all quavery and feeble. But I suppose it’s several years since she started doing the narrations, and we are all getting older.

I love it! No more to be said and last night's episode was really moving.
