I am with you on this one. I love corny, cliched and nostalgic viewing. For me, it is better than some of the aggressive stuff they call entertainment seen on TV.

I actually did not like it much, it was boring but I watched to the end

I loved it to bits. Corny and cliched, yes, with a "Hollywood ending" which was semi parody

but its still hankies out and watch every moment for me and always will be as a celebration among the sentimentality of "what really matters".

I loved it , over sentimental stuff isn’t my taste , but this just hit the right note for me watching it on my own ,

It’s one of the few things I watched yesterday and thought it was ok but not as good as some previous Christmas episodes. Like others here, I do like its gentle style but thought it was slow.

I kept telling Whatsisname to get a move on, and pop the question to Trixie!

I love the predicted formula to it. We know that there will be a feel good ending wrapped in sentimentality. Perhaps that's what we need rather than the aggression shown in eastenders. Plus it's getting closer to when I started nursing so nostalgia is kicking in with memories of riding a bike wearing a nurses cape by the docks in Bristol.

Totally corny, absolutely cliched, but I really enjoyed it. Every episode makes me cry at some point. I loved what Trixie was wearing at the end. And could the wee lass who plays Susan be any prettier?

Vanessa Redgrave sounds as though she is on her last legs, all quavery and feeble. But I suppose it’s several years since she started doing the narrations, and we are all getting older.

So much nicer than all the blood, gore, murder , violence and so called comedy of many other programmes

It was lovely, easy viewing. The wonky Christmas tree made me laugh as we have that argument…I mean discussion…every year in this house.

I find Dr Turner with that same expression/grin so irritating

Yes, late 60s. I lived for a while in Loughton (TOWIE land) and there was a new town called Debden (on the Central Line) which housed people from East London, mainly Bethnal Green and places around there, in 1960s. I believe the new town had been built after the war and gradually filled up. It wasn't particularly nice in my opinion, I would rather have been back in East London.

This is a good book for anyone interested.

I started watching this series a few years after it started and fell in love with it. I also enjoyed all the books. It was always going to be special too me as it was must see TV with a dear friend who died a few years ago. The fashions and furniture also bought back happy memories of my early childhood. My initially sceptical daughter also became a big fan.
I'm sure those who love the series remember the genuinely moving storyline when the tears just flowed,with happiness or sadness.
Now? Hmm. We eagerly anticipated the Christmas day special. It was okay. There are some "ahhh" moments and still an enjoyable sense of nostalgia. I also feel its becoming twee to the point of parody. I certainly felt this with DR Turner and his family. Their story has been so wonderful. Unfortunately to me it feels that in the first two episodes they have gone beyond wholesome to ,well twee and OTT. It's so sad,as if the series has lost its heart. Both my daughter and I feel that we are being manipulated into feeling emotions that came naturally by an overused formula. It was quite sad that at times in this new series we found some aspects amusing due to their efforts to tug on our heartstrings. There is still some heart in the programme,and we will continue to watch. Maybe it's been a victim of its own success.

I enjoyed it but, having been a health visitor, I was irritated by the way she was depicted.

Trixie’s wedding rivalled The Sound of Music. 😂
