Anyone watching? Very grim, but compelling as always. Last ever series too.

I am on the edge of my seat for most of it and behind the sofa for the rest!

Calendargirl I think all actors have to accept the type of roles they're suited to right from the start. I imagine that is one of the first things they are taught. You cannot expect leading roles if you look like a criminal or a druggie. Plenty of roles for people like that, they can make a good living out of playing the bad guys or the weaklings. The lucky ones are people like James Norton; if they can act then they can play heroes or villains!

Has Neil got history with Tommy? The way Tommy sent him off to get brews suggests so

silverlining48 Mon 16-Jan-23 12:31:27

That’s what I thought

Callistemon21 Mon 16-Jan-23 12:36:05

Calendargirl I think the actor playing the pharmacist has a very mobile, expressive face.
This might cheer you up

Great acting from all. A contrast to that wooden numpty playing the inspector in Death in Paradise.

I had to resort to a Mumsnet thread to find out who was sitting having the intense conversation on the garden bench (Anne and her father Nev - I hadn’t recognised either of them). While I was there I saw a theory that Ryan isn’t as naive as he seems and is plotting revenge on Tommy Lee. I do think he’d have been googling TL for years and will know just how awful he is.

Iam64 Mon 16-Jan-23 19:03:55

Maggie maybe, many thanks for this news from Mumsnet. I’ve not ventured recently.
I thought Ryan was dismissive of Tommy when talking with Neil after the prison visit, asking why he said such stupid things like about bungee jumping when he knows it won’t happen. Ryan has Catherine’s genes as well as Tommy’s, plus she’s raised him so has life long influence , even though she may not feel it currently.

Wow! The latest episode was an all action one.Watched it a short while ago this evening as am recording to watch when we want to, and we were glued to our seats.Hard not to give spoilers but the scene with the pharmacist and neighbour was electric and great acting from everyone.👏🏻👏🏻

Yes, I noticed how dismissive he was of Tommy's suggestion of bungee jumping together one day.
Ryan said that by the time Tommy gets out "he'll be 80 and I'll be 60".

I watched episode 2 followed by episode 3 last night, and am I correct that episode 4 is the last one? An awful lot to resolve: a court case, a possible murder, gang warfare, and emotional issues between grandmother and grandson and great aunt, not to mention dad. My feeling is that the filmed material has been condensed, rather badly, into four episodes rather than five or even six, which is sad as it as a complex story and would benefit from more exploration.
And why do they persist in filming scenes outside in the dark?

Sarah75 Tue 17-Jan-23 09:36:17

Looks like 6 episodes

Luckygirl3 Tue 17-Jan-23 09:41:50

Anne and her father Nev - I have come into this series late - who are these people?

bikergran Tue 17-Jan-23 10:28:10

Not sure if we know the woman is dead yet, maybe she will survive (maybe not) .

Cannot believe we have already had 3 episodes, seems to have gone so quick after such a long wait.

Iam64 Tue 17-Jan-23 10:36:53

Annie was kidnapped and raped by Tommy. Her dad is Nev who was blackmailed . Catherine cracked the case and rescued Annie
Nev permanently grateful.

Luckygirl3

*Anne and her father Nev* - I have come into this series late - who are these people?

You really need to start at the beginning as the story thread is ongoing. Series 1 is on BBC iPlayer.

Abitbarmy Tue 17-Jan-23 10:56:38

So re the bit where Anne is sitting in the garden with her father, who was the guy inside the house? Was it just her partner or is he related to Catherine? My memory must be failing as I can’t seem to remember a lot of the last series…I’ve looked on Mumsnet as referred to above but there’s so many posts.

Callistemon21 Tue 17-Jan-23 10:59:50

He is Daniel Cawood, Catherine's son, uncle of Ryan.

volver Tue 17-Jan-23 11:01:15

The guy inside the house is Catherine's son. Everyone is linked to everyone else!

The actor playing Neil is playing a pirate in another series on TV at the moment. A very different character. I am permanently confused!

volver Tue 17-Jan-23 11:01:41

Oops, cross post Callistemon

Callistemon21 Tue 17-Jan-23 11:03:47

Daniel is in a relationship with Anne - I must have missed that but as I thought he was married to someone else.

It's confusing, too, because George Costigan, who plays Nevison Gallagher, often plays a baddie!!

Callistemon21 Tue 17-Jan-23 11:06:41

I keep expecting Nevison to turn out to be Mr Big!

He has that kind of face - blue-eyed innocence but menacing.

He's probably lovely in real life 🙂

NotSpaghetti Tue 17-Jan-23 11:08:22

I don't understand why, now it's in the open re the visits, Catherine was unable to say more to Ryan about his dad.
She kept saying "trust me" and "believe me". She didn't say, yes, your mum took her own life. Ryan isn't a baby now. She could have done more here.
I find her frustrating sometimes.

Callistemon21 Tue 17-Jan-23 11:12:47

Would any child want to know that he was born as a result of rape? How does she begin to tell him that?

NotSpaghetti Tue 17-Jan-23 11:12:57

I also don't understand why James Norton is seen as a heartthrob.

He has an "empty-headed" look to me! grin
