I know there is an old thread on this but it says to start another one. I have just binge watched all three of the series on BBC i-player and had to come on here to say how fabulous it is. All that beautiful scenery, the sun and the gentle humour, as well as the fabulous music. Is Series 3 followed by Boxing Night's episode really the last of it? I do hope not.

I also hope not I binge watched over Christmas and it’s certainly a wonderful series. I hope they bring it back.

They can't keep just missing out on massive treasure trove though grin.

I loved it too, but I'm not sure how many more they can reasonably make.

Just fab. We used to do archery and that has a very similar feel - hours disappear quietly and peacefully. And the club is your family.

It was a total surprise that they did this Christmas special so I can’t see there being another one. There are lots of actors/writers that are linked via Horrible Histories (Simon Farnaby being the main link) and I find everything they do wonderful. Ghosts has a similar feel to it: a gentle mixture of humour and sadness. And everything that. Toby Jones does is wonderful, too. He made another series after Detectorists that, sadly didn’t get a second series due to covid (I’ve forgotten what it’s called). Ian Hislop did a podcast about how the U.K. became one nation. I think it’s called This Union and he refers to Detectorists quite a lot because one of the best ways of finding out about the past is by finding old coins. Not only do they have pictures on them but the amount of silver in them indicates how wealthy a particular ruler would be at the time.

The whole series is a treasure in itself.

Loved the Detectorists. Gentle humour to round off my day. Sorry when it ended.

I think I'm in love with Mackenzie Crook. Didn't realise Diana Rigg plays his mother-in-law - and is his on-screen wife Diana's daughter?

MayBee70 Mon 23-Jan-23 22:36:29

She is. She’s married to Guy Garvey.

MayBee70 Mon 23-Jan-23 22:37:07

Have you seen Mackenzie Crooke in Britannia?

Deedaa Mon 23-Jan-23 22:55:39

"Did you see UniversityChallenge last night?"
"Yes. Pub?"

GagaJo Mon 23-Jan-23 22:56:31

I also loved it and binge watched all 3 series. Fab.

NotTooOld Tue 24-Jan-23 14:43:32

Maybee - what is Britannia, please?

MayBee70 Tue 24-Jan-23 16:33:54

It’s a three part fantasy series: bit like Game of Thrones on acid! Crooke plays a central character and also wrote some of series 3. The final series was a it of a disappointment, though. It’s very weird.

I'm about to start series 3 it's a joy to watch the gentle humour and the music is so relaxing

Not forgetting the beautiful scenery

It’s charming, so gentle and the filming is beautiful.
We are all rewatching at work at the moment.
I find Andy to be strangely attractive, and I love the friendship between Andy and Lance.

Juliet27 Wed 25-Jan-23 06:32:46

I agree Sara re Andy!

DanniRae Wed 25-Jan-23 07:57:26

Mr R and I both loved it. And it'd very unusual for that to happen! smile

YorkLady Wed 25-Jan-23 08:05:21

Just started watching this, because of this thread. Enjoying it so far.
Thanks for the recommendation.

NotTooOld Wed 25-Jan-23 14:07:38

Andy, yes, so strangely attractive.........wink

Who does the music, does anyone know?

MandL Wed 25-Jan-23 20:19:57

Johnny Flynn!
He also has a cameo when Lance plays guitar in the pub.

It is a fabulous series

Don't forget the driver is the show Toby Jones was in I think?

Said he was devastated when they couldn’t do a second series. I really enjoyed it.

I loved the scene in the pub when vegetarian Andy was eating pork scratchings, thinking they were just pork flavoured crisps. When he read the ingredients ''deep fried pig skin" he said "how long has this been going on?"
